The Pagan Name Generator, revisited

The idea to "revisit" this subject was inspired by jlbvt's thread: Do you have a magical name, and how did you choose it?
The Pagan Name Generator was originally posted by Tarotbear a very long time ago. Some time later, by Marion.
A search under the topic did not produce any results, so for the benefit of the new members & for anyone else who may be interested, I am posting the website. Those of us who initially tried it out found it uncanny after we ascertained the meanings of the names.
Btw: I decided to keep the "name" I was "given": Astra Wyrd Cassandra, though I am not crazy about the Cassandra.
Astra = English, from Greek "Aster" = Star.
Wyrd = the triple goddesses of fate of Norse mythology.
Cassandra = from Greek mythology, the Trojan princess given the gift of prophecy by Apollo.
http://www.fjordstone.com/fjo/generator.html
It would be interesting & fun to see what names result.

MeeWah,
This was a lot of fun. I like my name too:
[/color]
Aurora = Goddess of the Dawn
Branwen = Goddess of Love and Beauty
Odin = God of War, Wisdom and Poetry
These will be my alter egos. I will aspire to them, perhaps ask their protection and blessings. But I still like Moongold.
Do you know.......if I had gone through school with a name like this my life may have been totally different!!!

Cerridwen Annwnn Ice
I like the name...
Ice is a bit cold for the warm and caring person that I am.
Then again, I'm quite influenced by Capricorn...they can appear cold. It's probably reffering to the average temprature of my hands and feet....
.....where did you find the breakdown for the meanings?
'ann' is part of my real first name....

Whoa, check out my name. Don't mess with me, baby - I'm...

I think it will be interesting, to say the least, being named after the Hindu goddess of destruction.
Thank you so much, MeeWah! This was fun!

....Introducing:
Gwyneth Raven Merlin!
Ok, I like it, but I'm afraid the only Gwyneth that comes to mind right now is the actress-waif....
I used to have a parrot named Merlin - or rather, Merlijn, the Dutch version of the name.
Am I the only one who is reminded of those things were you get your porn-actor name? Something like: take the name of your first pet, and add - can't remember what you're supposed to add. :D

I see names as vehicles of power/empowerment, so part of the interest in names stems from this view. Words themselves have power--to heal, to diminish, so on. Some cultures choose names carefully with that in mind such as the Native American & Asian cultures. My given name was in observation of the concept.
Some of the meanings of names I already know, from a period of frenzied research years ago :D I also have a couple of reference sources on names. There are websites that provide basic information on the origin &/or meaning which a search under the topic "names" would produce.

|
Lunalafey: Am inclined to think there is an emphasis on Old English influences.
Cerridwen reminds me of a form of "Cedric" which means "battle chieftain". Wen seems to be a variation of "Wynn"', "Wynn" & other variations; of Old Welch origin: "fair, white one".
Ann(e) is of Hebrew origin: "graceful one" with "wnn" a variation of the aforementioned "Wynn".
Ice seems descriptive as well--a reference as ye have mentioned to the cold extremities as well as the appearance of such. Capricorns can appear distant & aloof, but in reality, they are anything but! Btw: "Isa" (also Ica) is of Scandinavian origin; also a rune. It refers to a state of stasis; a standstill, a freeze.
|

|
FireMaiden: Considering that ye are an opera singer, Lorelei seems apt--of *German* derivation: "Siren of the River Rhine" :D
North--are ye originally from the "north"?
Earthhaven--that is evocative of the earthy qualities, which provide grounding & sustenance.
Btw: am flying by the seat of my pants; intuitively.

I've collected names ever since I can remember, in different 'categories'
Mundane, neat sounding
Mundane-with-meaning
Magical/purposeful
One of my favorite sources of magical/purposeful is "Magical Names" by Phoenix McFarland, and that is where I came across my current purpose name. (A bright, earth-based personality. One who loves the turning of the wheel of the year and who rejoices with its changes. *Well, I'm working on it*)
There is also an extensive site giving the numerological/kabalarian low-down on any name. If it's not there - email them. They even evaluate business names! http://www.kabalarians.com/index.htm

ahern is one who owns many horses, or lord of the horses.

Ok, after a little web research I've found the following...
Deirdre meaning "sorrowful" from Old English, Gaelic
Rowan meaning "red headed, rugged" It is also a tree that is said to be preferred (second only to the Yew) for wand making.
and, of course, Odin from Norse Mythology
I gave it another try since the name didn't fit as well as I would've liked. This time I got:
Cerridwyn Autumn Athena
Cerridwyn, "a Goddess of inspiration and knowledge...the very essence of the Triple Goddess"
Autumn, from the season of Autumn - which is appropriate as I was born in the autumn!
Athena, the virgin goddess of wisdom and the arts. Also a warrior.

Tee hee....I did it twice. The first time it came out as:
Arianrhod East Gaia, which took a bit of research, but I interpret as Silver wheel (hence Moon), east & earth mother. I suppose this could mean "Eastern Moon Mother".
The second time I did this it came out as:
Morgaine Gaia Celestine
Which I could interpret as: "Fairy Mother of the Stars"
Hmmmm....which to choose, which to choose....

I love this link, MeeWah! I tried it a bunch of times, and I got a lot of stinkers. But then I got a couple of really good ones. *I know that I have defeated the purpose of the generator* But I have to be true to myself, so here's what I got:
Thunder Firedancer Elven
I also really like "Rowan", I read that on someone elses post here. Maybe I would settle for Rowan Thunder Firedancer, or maybe even Thunderdancer, I love these names!

Okay, that was too funny.
Gaia Lugh Gaia.
Gaia is one letter off from my English given name and I think Lug is a celtic godling of sort. The fact I have two Gaias really counters my air-water aspects, but my Libra Moon self is chuckling, saying the earth really made an impact in this name.
Thanks Meewah, that was fun.

So I'm gonna try again...

I'm Gaia Ocean Ogham.
I guess that fits, me being a very earthy person (Gaia) who loves the Ocean... ;)
I don't know what Ogham means though...
Edited to add: Maan (thanks!) sent me this website.
Ogham is "an alphabet that was used in fifth-century Ireland.
Known as ogham, the 25-letter alphabet was supposedly inspired by Ogma, god of eloquence."
Seems to fit too, since I'm originally a translator/writer... ;)

I tried again, have a different name. Had a bit of time this afternoon so I am off to look up info and read more on a new name that it gave me after retrying it. I am keeping this one. I really love this name, liked the other one too.
I'm just not too sure how to pronounce the last part of Arianrhod. Is it said as rod or rode? I am guessing the "h" is silent and it is spoke as rod. Is that right?
Ohhhhhh the full name, I will place it in the subject line.......but it is Arianrhod Henge Faerie.
Musing a muddled mind here, guess I am in connection to a Faerie or Faeries within a Henge coming out in the light of the full moons in service of Arianrhod or is this my presence of being in an altered state of consciousness or both? :-)
Light, love and bright blessings,

(i love name generators...had a great Ya Ya name somewhere...hehe)
behold!
Cerridwen Epona Moonstone
has joined the midst...
Cerridwen: Means "blessed poetry" from Welsh cerdd "poetry" and gwen "white, fair, blessed". This is the name of a Celtic goddess of poetry.
Epona: Derived from Gaulish epos meaning "horse". This was the name of the Celtic goddess of horses.
Moonstone: Intuitive sources say that Moonstone is a stone of emotional harmony and wellbeing. It has been revered for centuries in India as a stone which can bring harmony and good fortune to marriages and love relationships. Moonstone is said to help one relax and enjoy life, and to help one fully love & appreciate others.

To answer your questions, Ravenal.
Yes, I found it on the first click and I tried some more also, but I didn't like the subsequent ones at all.
It relates to my sun and moon signs as follows. My sun sign is Aries and my moon sign is Capricorn. Capricorn moon people tends to me loners and being cautious with a sense of the proper, while Aries sun people are full of action and excitement. The Nightwind part does speak of lonelyness but also of movement, while Dragons are both firey and conservative creatures.
