In the book to the Celtic Oracle, the author calls the Summer Solstice Coamhain. I have never heard of this name for it anywhere else. All I've heard is Litha or Midsummer. Has anyone else heard of this name? If you have, what is the meaning and basis behind it?

I believe it is used by the Druids, and I think it's Gaelic or something. Just like we call Halloween Samhain (Which I notice has the same ending to it as Coamhain)... Same thing I guess!
YOu could try looking up some Druidry sites on the net and see what they have to say about it.

I tried looking this up as well after reading your post.
Try looking up Caomhain .. its Celtic for 'reserve' ..
Reason I suggest this is that Caomhain came up for some searches of Coamhain

I googled it and came up with a couple of sites that list Coamhain as the summer solstice.
Here's an interesting one:

I wonder why it isn't one of the names generally given to the summer solstice by Wiccans, since so many of us seem to be interested in Celtic myth or reconstructionism. (Not me personally though, or perhaps I'd know the answer! :) )
