I had a gold painted, one winged angle rising out of a cornicopia. It was a Christmas ornament, but I had it hanging behind my woodstove for 6 months. I loved it. 2 days ago, my four year old son who never demonstrated the least bit of interest in it took it down and broke off her wing.
I have another angel. It's like a little doll made out of straw or grass off some sort. It sits on top of a mounted mirror on the wall, about 7 feet above the ground. I looked at it today, and one of its wings has collapsed.
This is somewhat depressing to me. I think somehow it is related to the fact that we are drawing nearer to putting our house on the market. I alternatively feel excited about future possibilities and scared and helpless about what the future may bring.
Any thoughts?

Belladonna,
Even though the wings are not visable, they are there.
Look at the angels, are they trying to come down to stand next to you during this time of change in stead of flying above you.
Take them and hold them between your hands and feel their energy..their love. From there, place them in a place where you will see them everyday and know they symbolize the true angels that watch over you..
Blessings,
Cj

Whenever I think of broken wings I think of physical health first, or else something that is 'broken' in my life that needs to be repaired, healed, taken care of or even replaced. I also think of the angel as being more 'grounded' now, more earth-bound (practicality? realism?). I might interpret it for myself as something not right in my spiritual or metaphysical system or life. Actually, I can quite relate to this metaphor in my own life right now! Hope this helps a little :)

i think of wings as representing freedom.
with all the pressures and responsibilities coming from selling a house and moving, perhaps it just represents a loss of freedom.
make sure you hug your four year old!
...actually, i like cj's beautiful take on it better :)

I don't know how relevant this image may be for you, but I was immediately drawn to the idea (when reading the thread title) that your angels are molting. Dropping their old ones for new ones that are even better.
:) hugs to you and your broken porcelain ...

Thank you all for your take on this.
cjtarot, you immediately brought tears to my eyes and I am following your advice. Those angels are going on my altar tonite.
littleneptune, I think my fantasy is broken and I am being confronted with reality. But it seems my angels have come down from the clouds, too, just to be with me! Imagine that!
Zorya and Alissa, this sort of relates to both of your posts. I think I FEAR the freedom. You know what my four year old said? " She only had one wing anyway, Mommy. Now she can get some new ones."

well, there you go. Sometimes we imagine the answer to our questions as being much more complex then what they are. I think your 4 yr old knows EXACTLY what's goin on! Have faith on, and hold your chin up. I think everything will work out better then you're thinking it will. Besides, you can still dream even while you are facing hard realities.

Belladonna, some great perspectives here!
Transition is difficult, i think primarily because it involves griefwork and birthwork, of a sort.
I loved alissa's description of "molting"; that holds powerful imagery and magic! I think of one of my favorite movies, Michael....
And your 4 year old so matter of factly announced that, didn't she.... new ones, maybe made out of lace doilies and little gemstones and feathers........?????
PS: I'd ask your 4 year old, she probably knows what to make them out of too. ;)
