This is just to let you all know re: the upcoming solstice, if anyone out there is interested/wanted any information on it.
Our 2nd-hand bookstore - Treadwell's of London, is taking a car to Stonehenge the night of the solstice, to catch the first rays about 4/5 in the morning.
It will be BUSY!! Last year, 22,000 - and considering the volumes of merry ppl, VERY little trouble. (I think only sth like 15 arrests for 'minor drug offences' ie dope)
Been since it was legalised, 2000 - we shall be (ahemm) "taking shop photos" for a future display of Treadwell's at the Festivals -bit of the shop.
DOOOO let us know if any of you make it there - or plan to go, even to a different sacred site.
It'll be nice to hear your stories

i would love to visit stonehenge, especially in midsummer. (not able to this year) - however the thought of all these people has put me off before - i have just reaslised it is proberbly a really good vibe going on.

I won't be going to Stonehenge, simply because I'm not into a big social thing when it comes to festivals... Thousands of people that I don't know, all partying... It would be nice for something which wasn't, to me, a holy day.
So, instead, a small group of close friends and I are going to celebrate by watching the sun rise and having an impromptu Pagan celebration... Dunno where yet, but there are dozens of wonderful places we could go around here.

I'm traveling to London to visit a friend there later this summer, and we're planning a trip to Glastonbury or Avesbury. I dunno, I'm with Kiama, the idea of 22,000 people at Stonehenge on a sacred day makes my skin crawl a little bit. Sounds like great fun any other time of the year though, even though I'm not a particularly social kind of witch.

i think it is 'each to their own'. my idea of celebrating a festival is dancing and drinking, sharing and meeting new people. especially - this is what the summer is all about to me. but i would tend to stay with close friends and family in winter festivals, or even spend them alone.
i suppose it depends on what is imprinted in the individual. i am a sun worshipper, and a party girl.

Ooooh, I'm so jealous!
I would love to be able to be there - part of something so big. I'm sure it has a wonderful vibe!
One day, one day...

i was fortunate to be able to spend the harmonic convergence, in aug. 87 at teotihuacan. not only was it a major event that drew thousands, but the locals were all there too, because it was a free day.
it was packed, but the energy and love was incredible! i will never forget that feeling. all the people added and didn't subtract one bit from the experience.

Hi Alll,
thank you for posts, much appreciated.
This is/was (lol) meant to "quote" the post above - THIS IS EXACTLY what it's like at the circle - we are almost all fulll of respect , reverence and thinking of the past and how this is what used to happen many, many years ago - it was and is still, treated as a sacred site ppl flock to in order to pay their respect and (esp in my case) re-charge the spiritual power-pack..
If any of you make the trek to Treadwell's, you will meet my boss - Christina - who's been teaching others for a very long time.
Anyone fancy a good old chin-wag about Paganism& the like by the authoress of "Women in a Celtic Church"
Then COME ON DOWN!!!
Or, if like me, you just wanna chill-out on the C19 sofa, sip a brew, have a browse, you are all welcome.

will post more later - need to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
