Hi all,

I just did the name test azuremariposa posted..

The name everyone around here calls me, Connie, and CJ ( a name I chose for the forum and my business..I like it) didn't fit me at all..of course there were some connections..but very few. The name "Alistar" came up the most accurate.

NOW..lets talk about the name Alistar. I have had this name in my minds for years and years. In my dreams I am Alistar.

SO is that my Magickal name..Spiritual name or just my wild imagination.

How do you get a magickal name..do Christians have them?? Does the High Priestest of a Coven give you one???

I wish holmes could help here..he has a great numerology system that ties into tarot that seems to always be accurate for me..He told me once when we chose a new name..nickname we do so to reinvent ourselves..and I find that to be very accurate for me and my friends who have suddenly decided they want to be called by a new nickname..

SO where does Alistar come in.

Let me know your opinions, comments and such..

Blessings

Cj

cj, if you've had this name in your mind and dreams for yes, then it certainly is your magickal name.

some get their magickal names from covens or other places. i would assume some believe the way they get them is the only way, lol.

some get their names from guides, in dreams, meditations or journeys.

many even choose their magick name. if it feels magickal to you then it must be ;)

as far as christians, i would doubt most would call any of their names magickal, even if they had spiritual names. i am sure there are a few, very open minded christians, that do.

Hi Cj!
I think it is entirely possible for Christians to have magickal/spiritual names. Look at the Golden Dawn; a heremetic Christian magickal order, and they all had magickal names that they used as part of their workings. If you identify more with the name Alistar, then I'd say that that's your magickal/spiritual name and you should use it. It sounds to me like you identify with that name more closely than your given name, and that it reflects who you are more accurately.

My magickal name was self-chosen, but I do think that it is more reflective of who I am at this moment than my given name. I knew when I heard it the first time that that was who I am and the name that I should call myself. If I ever need to change it, I also know that I can do that too. My personality and my character isn't going to stay the same, why should my name? :)

Names are funny things. There are stories in a number of cultures which indicate that lots of people have two or more names, one a mundane everyday name, the other a more magickal name. Often the magickal name is referred to as a "true" name, as though every other name that you have is an artiface in some way, which has some interesting ramifications to it. In ancient Egyptian culture, your magickal/spiritual name was extremely carefully guarded, because to know something by its "true" name was to have immense power over it. Even now, I think that that is absolutely true.

There is a myth about the goddess Isis and the sun god Re. Re had grown old and feeble and senile, and the world was being destroyed because of his inability to govern it properly. Isis devised a scheme where she took some earth, mixed it with the drool of the sun god, fashioned a scorpion from it, and sent it to sting Re. In pain and sick, Re called Isis to him, as she is the goddess of healing, and asked her to heal him. She said that she would, but that she needed his "true" name to work the spell to heal him. He refused at first, and she refused to help him. Eventually, Re capitulated and told her his true name. With all his magickal power and skill now in her possession, she used it to heal Re and the parched and scorched earth. One of her epithets used in her temple is "Possessor of the True Name of Re."

Names are powerful things. It doesn't do to underestimate theior power.
