QUIZ, what faith are you?

"Even if YOU don't know what faith you are, Belief-O-Matic knows. Answer 20 questions about your concept of God, the afterlife, human nature, and more, and Belief-O-Matic will tell you what religion (if any) you practice...or ought to consider practicing.

Warning: Belief-O-Matic assumes no legal liability for the ultimate fate of your soul."

i thought it was time to bring up this quiz again for those of you who haven't taken it.

for those who have, if you would like to compare your current results with previous ones, here is a link; http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7172&highlight=religion

enjoy!

firemaiden  05 Jun 2003
Wow, that's amazing, it makes me a universalist unitarian, the "faith" that my aetheist mixed marriage parents got married in. Hmmm

coldsuns  05 Jun 2003
The quiz has many words that are hard to understand. The words are too small to read. Very confusing. Hehe. But is a very nice quest. Thanks for your link ^_^

Astraea  05 Jun 2003
That is a very interesting quiz -- the questions are thoughtful and require one to have done some self-examination in order to answer them. The results seemed quite accurate to me, given the general nature of the quiz. Thanks for the link!

Emily  05 Jun 2003
I'm not sure what I got last time but this time I'm a 100% Neo Pagan (what is a Neo Pagan? ) :)

Kiama  05 Jun 2003
1. Neo-Pagan (100%)
2. New Age (82%)
3. Unitarian Universalism (78%)
4. Reform Judaism (74%)
5. Liberal Quakers (69%)
6. Mahayana Buddhism (68%)
7. Sikhism (66%)
8. Jainism (65%)
9. Theravada Buddhism (58%)
10. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (57%)

Very interesting... Last time I took this test, about a year ago, my results were different... It just goes to show how much one's beliefs change over time. The results were particularly interesting, because only recently have I become aware of how similar my beliefs/practices are to Reform Judaism and Buddhism, which are in the top 10 here. I would describe myself for ease as a Neo-Pagan, but I definitely have Buddhist and Jewish sympathies aswell, and I've only just realised this recently through my studies of them.

Thanks for the link Zorya!

Kiama

PS: Emily... Neo-Paganism is quite difficult to describe, but those who fall under it's category would be witches, Wiccans, Pagans, Druids, etc... Since there is such a diversity of people who are classed as Neo-Paganism, it is very difficult for me to describe it without causing somebody to say 'I'm an exception', but I'll have a go at saying what Neo-Paganism is to me, and the Pagans I know...

Neo-Paganism is an umbrella term which houses spiritual paths which usually have in common a belief in pre-Christian deities, or a pantheist Universal deity. They usually also have in common a deep respect for the Earth and the cycles of Nature, and many incorporate these cycles into their lives. Many also believe that all deities are one, but different religions have different ways of worshipping that One, which means they're all trying to get to the same place in the end, and there's no right or wrong religion, except in reference to the individual.

I've probably missed something out there, but it's the best I can do for now! Hope it helps!

I think last time I got neo-paganism in first place as well.

This is their description of neo-paganism by the way.

PS: this page contains more religion tests, including a "Pagan Path Selector" and a "Pagan Tradition Selector".
According to the first one I'm Wiccan and according to the second one I'm a Celtic Reconstructionist (Celtic what?? :D).
I think I'll just stick to neo-pagan... ;)

Good lord. I didn't know I was New Age. I certainly never thought I was New-Pagan either (or Old-Pagan either). If someone had asked me, I probably would have replied "definitely not."

I don't know what Unitarian Universalism is, nor New Thought (is that a kind of New Agey thing?). What on earth is "Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants"? Mainline???

Scientology - EEEEEK! Where's the door so I can run out!

Christian Science I can handle. Mahayana Buddhism - never heard of it - is that Tibetan Buddhism?

Liberal Quakers? I don't think I have ever met a Quaker. They are confined to North America, I think. Hinduism I have heard of...

Seems like I am all sorts of stuff I never knew! :D

Indigo_lady  05 Jun 2003
This is funny....

I've been brought up in a Catholic environment and it doesn't even make the top TWENTY ...

1. Hinduism (100%)
2. Sikhism (98%)
3. Neo-Pagan (97%)
4. Mahayana Buddhism (90%)
5. Jainism (88%)

this is something that I certainly did not expect

7. Mahayana Buddhism (79%)
8. Liberal Quakers (75%)
9. Orthodox Judaism (66%)
10. Hinduism (64%)

Jain? Sikh? Reform Jew? Where did those come from!?

And on the choose your Pagan path and tradition quiz gave me Druid and Asatru respectively. Wow, the Asatruer in my life will be shocked to know that, as I'm sooooo not into Asatru lol. Wicca came way at the bottom of both lists actually, which is what I am anyway...

well, this has to be the third or fourth time i've taken this...the top three seem to rotate depending on how i answer, but here are my results:

not shocking is the fact that there are nooooooo Christian religions in my top 10...i get Liberal Quaker (which i'm not sure if that's Christian or not) at 11 & don't get anything else Christian-ish until 16...ha! i knew Christianity just wasn't for me...hehe...

I was actually pretty surprised I matched 100% with neo-pagan! I have felt resonance with Celtic background, so that makes me want to get more in touch with that. I was raised Catholic, but there are lot of things I disagree with, evident by only 18% match with Catholicism.

2. New Thought (99%)

Hmm, I wonder why Islam scored higher than the most conservative Cristian faiths, maybe because of the lack of an original sin doctrine?

No Shinto and no Zorostraism on the list.

Crikey! What's a Unitarian Universalist??

I suspect these results will change significantly over the next year....I answered the questions even though I'm still trying to understand my feelings and thoughts about many of the issues...e.g. karma, reincarnation. I also can't quite buy into the "spirit is all, body is nothing" approach, though a good part of me wants to. What I don't like are spiritual approaches that concentrate on rules and seem to have an unhealthy desire to punish...guess that's why neo-pagan comes out so high..

This forum helps me a lot by introducing me to some of the elements mentioned above...and helping me to make some sense of them....but of course I'm still journeying (hope it never stops).

Love and thanks,

Wildwood

1. Neo-Pagan (100%)
2. Reform Judaism (83%)
3. Sikhism (83%)
4. Jainism (82%)
5. Unitarian Universalism (78%)

I also got Druid for the Pagan Path Selector and Celtic Reconstructionist for the Pagan Tradition Selector. I disagree with both of those, but I think the questions were sort of slanted and perhaps were written by people with specific ideas about certain religions that aren't necessarily true. But it was fun none the less! :)

Ummmm hmmmm
well ........ yeah i guess.
(I knew I should've taken that comparative religions course, I don't know squat about half that are listed here). I'll have to read more at the site.

I guess I knew all along that I was my own belief system, and Hinduism is the closest established religion to my own.

p.s. edited to add, "Neo Pagan", what kind of religious description is that? I just read the section and I still don't know what the hell they're talking about.

And have you noticed how almost everyone here at AT is a 100% Neo pagan? Doesn't seem right... I bet if you answered affirmatively to the "using Tarot cards" question you get plopped into the "Neo Pagans"!

i find, honestly, that "religion" puts boundries on belifes and i find it very ummmm... , we'll say funny, on the first choice. My ideas and belifes are very diverse in many aspects. I respect thoses who fallow religion, when they do it of the own free will, and knew what they are fallowing, thats called faith and dedication. But thoses who fallow it blindly, or just because their parents do, i pitty them, for they are missing out! :)sorry im done now

I took it twice and both times I was a UU, although the rest varied. I think they should have put in a question like: do you believe in christ/the bible, because I may share some of my opinions with liberal Christians but I just don't think Jesus is very important. I mean, obviously, he's important to a lot of people, but I just don't care that much. He's just another philosopher to me. I can live with Neo-Pagan though, and that scored pretty high both times. Meh...

zorya  11 Jun 2003
willie, the beliefs you just stated jive with unitarian universalists. they are a very progressive and liberal church. their interpretations of who or what 'jesus' was/is are very open. although they were started as a christian religion, that aspect of them seems to have dropped by the wayside. jesus is not their main emphasis. just as often their services might quote the dali lama.

there is also an offshoot for pagan unitarian universalists, that usually meet in the same buildings.

oliveoil  11 Jun 2003
I got Mainline to Christian Protestants. I read the description - no way does this apply to me or look remotely attractive. So, I took the quiz again, and answered "none of the above" for all the answers and got MAINLINE TO CHRISTIAN PROTESTANTS!

I don't personally believe in monotheism, Christianity, or the validity of the Bible, and if I were to - I would honor what I was raised as which was a Catholic.

VERY ODD INDEED!

WillieHewes  12 Jun 2003
Zorya, I don't particularly care about the dalai lama either...

I just don't really see the point of having an organised religion if everyone in the church believes different things.

Baby Owl  12 Jun 2003
Personally, I feel that organized religion is a "group thing." In other words, some people like to do things in groups. If you are that type, you look for groups to join. Of course you want to join groups where people share your views or at least accept them.

Some I don't even know what are, I was surprised to get a name for my believe; neo-pagan. It fits very good what is described about being a neo-pagan. Wonder what folks here in the missionary part of denmark will say, when I say "i am a neo-pagan!" LOL, well about 98% wouldn't know what I was talking about and the rest would run screaming "witch witch withc!"

How did I even get that far in this town???

I had a feeling.... I've been telling people for years that I was probably closest to Buddhism, but I've also lately had a great interest in Ganesha, so it's interesting to see Hinduism listed there close to the top as well. But I have recently begun to realize that I'm a Pagan. As for following the cycles of Nature, I've been a bit of a nut for that ever since I can remember.

This is an interesting quiz, accurate or not. Thanks, Zorya, for sharing it.

I agree with you, Baby Owl. To me an organized religion is simply one that allows one to practice in a group. When I did belong to a church years ago, my favorite thing was the singing. Since the congregation as a whole drowned out my voice, it wasn't a problem for anyone else that I sang there either. ;)

Blessings! of whatever kind you believe in!

2. Neo-Pagan (96%)
3. New Thought (85%)
4. Mahayana Buddhism (83%)
5. Liberal Quakers (81%)
6. Sikhism (81%)
7. Unitarian Universalism (81%)
8. Jainism (77%)
9. New Age (77%)
10. Theravada Buddhism (75%)

But there was so much I didn't understand there, and I haven't got the necessary patience....

I feel the Neo-Pagan is closest to me...

Reform Judaism - 99%

This was an interesting exercise , tho' I would need to know
the criteria that was used before "believing" in its validity .

Did those people who did it last year notice any major
differences in the results ? What do you put that down to ?
Any one thing , or a combination ? I'd be interested to hear.

Ok , off to find a lox and cream cheese bagel.

MeeWah  14 Jun 2003
As of today:
1. Neo-Pagan (100%)
2. Reform Judaism (98%)
3. Sikhism (94%)
4. Unitarian Universalism (94%)
5. Jainism (89%)
6. Mahayana Buddhism (89%)
7. Hinduism (85%)
8. New Age (80%)
9. Liberal Quakers (80%)
10. Theravada Buddhism (73%)

Last year's results:

1. Neo-Pagan (100%)
2. Reform Judaism (87%)
3. New Age (86%)
4. Mahayana Buddhism (86%)
5. Unitarian Universalism (85%)
6. Sikhism (80%)
7. Jainism (79%)
8. Hinduism (77%)
9. Liberal Quakers (71%)
10. Theravada Buddhism (68%)

Compared to last year's results, there is not a great deal of difference except in percentages. I am Buddhist by heritage but Wiccan by choice so Neo-Pagan "fits" the best. I tend to see most of us as engaged in an on-going process of change or evolution as we learn & define ourselves through various experiences & through our environment.

Trogon  15 Jun 2003

Not sure what I think about it really... I'll have to have a think...

hardly appropriate for a Tarot fan, I suppose. :)

Interesting that Agnostic and Atheist are not choices; and the questions weren't exactly geared to such an inclination.

Hee hee - Oooo. Hmmm. I came out 100% Pagan ... 8% Roman Catholic, & I'm a witch & work for an RC facility. So in spite of the quiz's limitations, it seems to have fit me to a "T".
