i would love to hear any spirituality based poems that anyone would like to share, particualry pagan ones. heres one to start of with from a book by peter j clark. but if people are interested i can submit a couple i have written myself later.
Bide the wiccan law ye must,
In perfect love, in perfect trust.
Eight words the wiccan rede fulfil:
An ye harm none do what ye will.
What ye sends forth comes back to thee,
So ever mind the rule of three.
Follow this with mind and heart,
And merry ye meet, and merry ye part.
i love that what does every one else think?

Hi SD :)
I love the Wiccan Rede. I have it on a poster, up on my wall.
To me, it exemplifies the principles of unity, trust, and personal responsibility, which I believe are sound values, and a good guide to peaceful living.
I also like "Charge of the Goddess" by Doreen Valiente.
Unfortunately, I don't happen to have it at hand.
If someone else out there has it, maybe they could post it?

This one isn't pagan and it probably doesn't even count as a poem ;), but I like it a lot:
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumoured by many
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it

i don't whether this is the one you mean but it's preety nice any how. next time can you request a shorter poem!!!!
when i have departed from this world
whenever ye have need of anything
once a month and when the moon is full
ye shall assemble in some desert place
or in a forest all together join
to adore the potent spirit of your queen
my mother great diana. she who fain
would lrean all sorcery yet has not won
its deepset secrets them my mother
teach her, in truth all things as yet unknown
and ye shall all be free from slavery
and so ye shall be free in everything:
and as the sign that ye are truly free
ye shall be naked in your rites, both men
and women also;this shall last until
the last of your oppressors shall be dead:
and ye shall make a game of benevento,
extinguishing the lights, and after that
shall hold your supper thus.
blessed be

please do post your poems for us samhaindark!
~~~~~~
here's another version of the 'charge of the goddess"
Mother darksome and divine,
Mine the scourge and mine the kiss.
Five-point star of life and bliss,
Here I charge ye in this sign.
Bow before my spirit bright,
Aphrodite, Arianrhod,
Lover of the Horned God,
Queen of witchery and night.
Diana, Brigid, Melusine,
Am I named of old by men;
Artemis and Cerridwen,
Hell's dark mistress, Heaven's Queen.
Ye who ask of me a boon,
Meet ye in some hidden shade,
Lead my dance in greenwood glade,
By the light of the full moon.
Dance about mine altar stone,
Work my holy magistry
Ye who are fain of sorcery,
I bring ye secrets yet unknown.
No more shall ye know slavery,
Who tread my round the Sabbat night.
Come ye all naked to the rite,
In sign that ye are truly free.
Keep ye my mysteries in mirth,
Heart joined to heart and lip to lip.
Five are the points of fellowship
That bring ye ecstasy on earth.
No other law but love I know,
By naught but love may I be known;
And all that liveth is my own,
From me they come, to me they go.
thanks for the 2 poems so far folks. i would like to share with you this poem i wrote when my grandma (who is possibly one of the most important people in my life) died. i miss her. before she died she suffered from dementia so in this i asked people not to judge her
DON'T JUDGE HER
please don't judge her strangers
because she means so much to me
and her family and friends around her
please don't judge her strangers
because there's so many of us that care
how can i tell you about who this person is
because i know that every old person
means so much to at least someone
i just pray that this old person is never forgotten
she'll always live in my mind
not for who she once was
but for who she still is
now let us all remember
exactly what she means to us
think of her ongoing presence
her love, strong and unconditional
as beautiful as a flower
as strong as a flowers beautiful essence
think of her generosity
as strong as the sun
always there never asking why
always giving never taking from anyone
think of her kindness and graciousness
as pure as a mountain spring
forever running on and on
you really could ask for anything
but there was never any need to ask for anything
just being there with her
was as beautiful as a present
for every one to share
please don't judge her strangers
who ever you may be
she means so much to so many people
she means so much to me
this is one of my fav poems. i copied it from ms word so it didn't copy out the actual way it was written. this was written by a man who got it as a "message" when he was in the hospital chapel praying while his wife was dying.
"I Am There," by James Dillet Freeman
need Me? I am there. You cannot se Me, yet I am
the light you see by. You cannot hear Me, yet I am
the power at work in your hands. You cannot feel
Me, yet I am the power at work in your hands. I am
at work, though you do not understand My ways. I
am at work, though you do not reconize My
works. I am not strange visions. I am not
mysteries. Only in absolute stillness, beyond self, can you know
Me as I am, and then but as a feeling and a
faith. Yet I am there. Yet I hear. Yet I answer. When you
need Me, I am there. Even if you deny Me, I am
there. Even when you feel most alone, I am there. Even in
your fears, I am there. Even in your pain, I am
there. I am there when you pray and when you do not
pray. I am in you, and you are in Me. Only in your
mind can you feel separate from Me, for only in your
mind are the mists of "yours" and "mine". Yet only
with your mind can you know Me and experience
Me. Empty your heart of empty fears. When you get
yourself out of the way, I am there. You can of
yourself do nothing, but I can do all. And I am in
all. Though you may not see the good, good is there, for I am
there. I am there because I have to be, because I
am. Only in Me does the world have meaning; only out of Me
does the world take form;only because of Me does
the world go forward. I am the law on which the
movement of the stars and the growth of living cells are
founded. I am the love that is the law's fulfilling. I am
assurance. I am peace. I am oneness. I am the law that
you can live by. I am the love that you can cling to.
I am your assurance. I am your peace. I am one with
you. I am. Though you fail to find Me, I don not
fail you. Though your faith in me is unsure, My
faith in you never wavers, because I know you because I
love you. Beloved, I am there.
another fav poem
Imagine A Woman
by Patricia Lynn Reilly
woman who beieves it is right and good she is
woman, A woman who honors her experience and tells her
stories, Who refuses to carry the sins of others within her
body and life.
Imagine a woman who believes she
is good, A woman who trusts and respects
herself, Who listens to her own needs and desires and then
meets them with tenderness and grace.
Imagine a
woman who believes she belongs in the world, A woman
who celebrates her own life, Who is glad to be
alive.
Imagine a woamn who has acknowledged the past's
influence on the present, A woman who has walked through
her past, Who has healed into the
present.
Imagine a woman in love with her own body, who
believes her body is enough, just as it is, Who
celebrates her body as a trustworthy companion and its
rhythms and cycles as an exquisite
resource.
Imagine a woman who embraces her sexuality as her
own, A woman who delights in pleasuring herself, Who
experiences all of her erotic feelings and sensations
without shame or guilt.
Imagine a woman who honors
the face of the Goddess in her own changing
face, A woman who celebrates the accumulation of her
years and her wisdom. Who refuses to use her
precious life energy to disguise the changes in her
body and life.
Imagine a woman who authors her
own life, A woman who exerts, initiates, and moves
on her own behalf, Who refuses to surrender
except to her truest self and to her wisest
voice.
Imagine a woman who names her own gods, A woman who
imagines the divine in her own image and likeness, Who
designs her own spirituality and allows it to inform
her daily life.
Imagine a woman who values the
women in her life, A woman who sits in circles of
women, Who is reminded of the truth about herself when she
forgets.
Imagine a shameless woman who is full of herself. A
powerful woman who has awakened to the truth about
herself. A courageous woman who has assumed her rightful
place beside men. A wise woman whose beliefs about
herself are reflected in her relationships.
and yet another...
May He Who is the Father in Heaven of the
Christians, Holy One of the Jews, Allah of the Muhammadans,
Buddha of the Buddhists, Tao of the Chinese, Ahura Mazda
of the Zoroastrians and Branhman of the Hindus[and
any other name for our higher power] lead us from the
unreal to the Real, from darkness to light, from disease
and death to immortality. May the ALL-Loving Being
manisfest Himself unto us, and grant us abiding
understanding and all-consuming divine love. Peace, Peace.
Peace be unto all.
Here's one I wrote.
Please, remember that to me the term "Dark" does not denote evil. Mysterious and deep, like the moonless night, the depths of the sea, or the infinite cosmos, but not something negative. Thank you :)
"Late at night"
"It is for him I long-
The Dark Creator.
All things are fashioned from within his mind.
The depths of his soul
are equaled by the beauty of his eyes.
He extends his hand, to share all that he is,
with me.
His one request is that I do the same.
A deliciously frightening proposition-
My choice is to accept.
We shall walk together beneath the star filled sky.
The ocean waves shall sound our symphony.
Laughing, we run through the halls of time.
And share the joys inherent
in our humanity.
And so, I wait.
My Dark Creator.
As time is my witness.
He shall know me."
Not a Dark God, but he'll have some of those qualities.
This is the man I hope to be with someday.
I know he's out there, somewhere, and he's looking for me too.
This is the man who will be my love, whoever and wherever, he is.
this was a poem I wrote to appear in a local year book ive been told it sounds quite angry but i prefere to see it has assertive, see what you all think (d.e have you emtied your full mail box yet?!!!)
A LITTLE MESSAGE BY SAMHAINDARK
How often have you heard comments like these?
Look girl, keep it down, we don’t want your beliefs floating around.
Or
Is that what you believe? You’re very sad and lonely, or probably just
mad.
Or how about
Keep it away out of my life, I know your type and it’s not nice.
This is for all the people that own those type of comments:
I AM A WITCH.
Did you get that? No?
I am a witch, witch, witch, witch, witch, witch, witch.
Got it now? Good.
There are lots of other things I could shout out loud and clear
But I’ll leave it be till another year.
Yay! An anthem!
I don't think it sounds angry at all. I'm someone who's been told innumerable times to "Keep it Down", and I'm glad you noticed that this kind of thing is going on out there, and wrote about it.
I'm a Witch too! Right on :)
Hi,
I absolutely LOVE THISE THREAD..I am so INSPIRED..
IF we ALL "report this post to the moderator" we can convince them to start a section for poetry and proverbs...
I love the poams..DE..Your dark man may be a future partner to you..but to me..I see the Almighty...Under the stars....Walking through time..Think about it..how scary is it to accept the unknown. It's amazing how diffent people see and hear the same words.
Truthsayer..your poams are wonderful..If it's ok with you, I am gonna pass the one about being a woman to my friends..a few could use the advise (me incluced)..
Blessings to you all
Cj, so glad you liked it :)
I loved truthsayers"Woman" poem too. It sounds a lot like what I am already, and what I need to be more of. It is my fervent hope, that my wished for man will see those qualities in me, and not be disparaging of them. You're from CT, you know how the guys are here....
GODDESS
o goddess of the full moon
mother goddess of fruition
allow this to be the year
of wisdom and intuition
o goddess we come together this night
with our feet on the ground
but you are every flower, every thought
you are dark and light; in fact your all around
o goddess of the full moon
goddess of the sea
if it be your will tonight
set are wishes free
o maiden, mother, crone
please keep us safe tonight
may all our thoughts be happy ones
and our lives full of light
Well, now it's time for me to uphold my end of the bargain. Here's another one by me :)
"New Year"
"She cradles him in her arms.
The fading light within his eyes.
Enough remains to view her beloved, aged face.
"I will return to you"
He says.
Then he is gone.
She mourns, the trees grow bare.
Out in frozen fields,
all that was missed by harvesters
must now be left.
An offering,
to the blessed generosity
of the Lady and Lord of the grain.
A spark within her womb,
The promise of light.
In deepest winter,
a guarantee of spring.
The Wheel turns.
Indeed, she knows
He will return to Her."
D.E i think this poem follows on very nicely from your last one. it isn't by me.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THROUGH STATIONS OF THE SUN,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE JOURNEYS NEVER DONE.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE SUN IS AT HIS HEIGHT,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
ALL THE WORLD IS LIGHT.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE HARVEST DOES BEGIN,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE HARVEST'S GATHERED IN.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
WARMTH AND LIGHT HAVE FLED,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
REMEMBERING THE DEAD.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
DESCEND INTO THE NIGHT,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
WELCOME BACK THE LIGHT.
TURN THE WHEEL , TURN THE WHEEL,
THE SEEDS ARE IN THE EARTH,
TURN THE WHEEL , TURN THE WHEEL,
WAITING FOR REBIRTH.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
WELCOME KING AND QUEEN,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE LEAVES ARE GROWING GREEN.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE SUN IS AT HIS HEIGHT,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
ALL THE WORLD IS LIGHT.
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THROUGH STATIONS OF THE SUN,
TURN THE WHEEL, TURN THE WHEEL,
THE JOURNEYS NEVER DONE.
from a book called THE WHEEL OF THE WICCAN YEAR
by GAIL DUFF.
It is ment to be used in rituals and i think it would be excellent for drawing up energy in a magick circle.
I am the wind
I am the air
I exist everywhere
I am the rain
I am the sea
I have existed for all eternity
I am the fire
I am the torch
I create all things within my forge
I am the dirt
I am the earth
To all things i have given birth
I am the power of creation
I am the force of being
I am a part of everyone and everything
