Who Here does Healing?

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 06 Jul 2003, and now archived in the Forum Library.

I was wondering, after reading so many posts referring to Reiki, who here does other forms of "healing practices"?

This could be any form from, Reiki, therapeutic touch, Shamanism, massage, Shamballa MDH, Shin Jin Jyutsu, crystal healing, toning/sound, aura cleansing, channeling, or any others I've not thought of.

It would be interesting to see how many multidimensional people are here.

Anyone like to share?

I use reiki. I have my third-degree attunment and will be completing my Reiki Master course in October.

I've also completed a course in Jin Shin Jyutsu about a year ago. I thought it was interesting, but I don't really use it, because I find reiki a lot easier to use... ;)

Hi
I`m almost at the end of a practitioner level course with The International Institute of Reflexology: Should finish in November but possibly in the new year as I`m having a bit of trouble finding people to use as case studies.
I`m also attuned to Reiki level 1 - doing level 2 when I`m a qualified reflexologist.
As a witch though I`ve been healing for a few years and that`s problably the healing I do the most of.

Love and light

Rhiannon  06 Jul 2003
Reiki 1 here, and hoping to get into a 10 month course on massage therapy. Right now I'm studying healing herbs as well, not just healing, but nourishing!

Hi, Ruby Red Slippers! I practice Jin Shin Jyutsu and utilize vibrational essences (flower, gem and starlight) in my work.

Ruby Red Slippers  06 Jul 2003
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!

Knew we had a variety of interest/talents here in combination with the love of Tarot!

Herbs - so much good and yet so little unbiased information about them. One either seems to be on the pro or the con side. I am concerned about the number of people who self medicate with herbs based on what a shop owner or employee advises. Not that it may be wrong, but that all information is usually not shared from the seeker. I have known older people give up their “high priced” prescriptions opting for a herbal remedy instead. Or the ones who combine prescription medicines and herbals and never tell their doctor or the shop owner they are “mixing”.

Can any of you offer what is being done to help the promotion of the “herbal world” while maintaining ethical standards? Zoya, where can we see a copy of your column? Is it available on the Internet?

I was also, interested in the vibrational essences (flower, gem and starlight) – could you tell us more about that and how it works Astraea?

Crystalmynx, can you share some of your witch healings with us?

Thank you for sharing in this thread……

We seem to have had some lookers who may be as interested as I am in exploring this area, but weren’t as bold as me…to post :)

my healing for others is done primarily through shamanic journeying.

i don't recommend any herbs to my clients for internal use. i use them myself and with my family. sometimes i recommend them to friends that are somewhat knowledgeable about herbal use themselves.

i do use herbs frequently in my spell work. that includes healing spells.

here is a link to one of my columns. you can link to back issues from the home page of the magazine. http://www.saskworld.com/bodymindspirit/edition13/18_column_victoria.htm

You might have heard of Bach flower essences, which were among the first vibrational remedies to be developed. In them, the energetic essences of flowers (and Rock Water, the single exception to Dr. Bach's flower-based array of essences) are distilled in pure water via sunlight, and their vibratory "stamps" are encoded in the water; these frequencies stimulate similar vibrations in other beings, and bring about transformations of consciousness.

Since the development of Bach Flower Remedies, people have discovered that essences can be made using many kinds of flowers and plants, gems and other materials, including starlight reflected by a telescopic mirror (to produce starlight/planetary remedies). The essences are basically homeopathic in nature, and most seem to work through the astral plane, though some (notably starlight essences) are thought to work at more refined levels.

Many, many companies -- Perelandra, the California Flower Essence Society and Pegasus Products are three of the best in the US -- produce essences of many types. In my own work, I use flower, vegetable and soul ray essences (the latter a product of pure intention) from Perelandra; flower essences from the California Flower Essence Society, and the Bach Flower Remedies; and Starlight Elixirs and gem essences from Pegasus Products. I make treatment bottles of essences intended to stimulate and support healing energies, and give them to clients following Jin Shin Jyutsu treatments. I also use them along with astrological counseling as a way of supporting the positive expressions of a person's energies, and transforming or modifying difficult ones.

Diana, here at Aeclectic, is a certified Bach Flower Remedy practitioner. While many flower essences have been developed since Dr. Bach's time, I believe that most of them represent elaborations on basic themes addressed beautifully, and inclusively, by the Bach essences.

Can anyone tell me how to help him but, not depleat myself in doing so. I enjoy helping others with my healing. But find myself tired alot lately. I am aso trying to find the physic part of me also again. So I am looking to all the great forums here as a guide to bring the person I was back into focus and get myself centered again. Thanks to all the wonderful folks here. I am not alone no more. Thanks to Husdangray for sending me your way.

Healing Modalities? Geez, how stuffy!

I've been interested in herbs for a very long time...since my boys, now 50 and 51, were very young and I needed some outside interest to keep me sane.

At that time herbs as medicine were viewed in the same way as other wierd practises such as astrology and tarot.

At the moment I have two resources for academically respectable herbal medical information. First of all, that bastion of respectability, the PDR, or Physcians Desk Reference, has put out a PDR for Herbal Medicine. My husband bought one for me about five years ago. I know its been updated since because they keep trying to get me to buy one. It may be available at local public libraries.

The second is a delightful quarterly magazine, "Herbs for Health." Again it's written and presented in an academically respectable way, although I suspect that few traditional medical school profs make it required reading. It's published at 243 East Fourth St, Loveland, CO.

Happy healing!

Martin  08 Jul 2003
Hello,

I'm qualified in remedial massage, aromatherapy, reflexology, indian head massage & kinesiology. I originally trained as a beauty therapist, which is a bit unusual for a male(!), and as an electrologist, but went down the road of holisitc medicine. I have since studies Vertical Reflexology Technique, polarity therapy & a few other modalities to supplement my main work.

Luckily I had a high standard of education in anatomy & physiology, and my 3 year full time course covered nutrition, microbiology & exercise as well as TCM, the nature of energy etc. I now work full time as a holsitic therapist in a clinic alongside two ex-nurses.

I do think one of the problems with complimentary medicine at the moment is the quality of training and the ease to set oneself up. I have seen first hand the damage that can be caused by "healers" who have done the odd part time course here & there and it's not pretty.

I personally believe that even when working with energy it is important to understand the physical body, stages of disease, how the organs inter-relate etc. I also firmly support some sort of regulation & insurance for all therapists. I belong to a couple of professional bodies and have insurance of up to £9 million to cover claims against me.

Just a few of my thoughts!

I think it depends on the healing method. I only use reiki, and for reiki it's not absolutely necessary, since you cannot hurt anyone with reiki, even if you wanted to ;). I'm not saying that you shouldn't study further, but it's what I like about reiki: that you don't need extensive background information to be able to use it.

I think the most important thing is to realise that you're not a doctor and to make that clear to the people you treat, and to also make clear that reiki is not a substitute for conventional medicine, but an addition to.

I know what you mean though, there have been cases here in the Netherlands too were alternative healers claimed to know it all and told their patients to stop the treatments they were prescribed by conventional medicine, with very ugly results in some cases.

"I know what you mean though, there have been cases here in the Netherlands too were alternative healers claimed to know it all and told their patients to stop the treatments they were prescribed by conventional medicine, with very ugly results in some cases."

Besides the damage being done to the patient, the image of holistic medicine as a whole gets damaged. It's hard enough to get patients and the medical profession to take us seriously as it is, and that's without poorly trained "therapists" causing extra damage.

We work very hard at our clinic to link with the local GP's, and a small proportion of our clients are GP's, surgeons, midwifes & nurses. From talking to them it becomes obvious that the picture they used to have of holisitc theraists was of loose canons trying to make a bit of money. Fortunately we have been able to address this slightly, but the increasing number of people seeting up shop after weekend courses with little experience is not helping.

The damage can also extend beyond the patients physical health, causing psychological problems as well. Healing involves a relationship between client & therapist that is very intimate (for want of a better word), and it is one that is easy to abuse. I'm not just talking about those who take sexual advantage of the desperate (although I have known of two cases where this has happened), but also those who use it as a chance to create a client dependency upon themselves in order to boost their own self-esteem.

I also worry that not everyone has developed the interpersonal skills required for healing. During treatments people do provide confidential material of a sensitive nature, and they are also apt to have outbreaks of an emotional nature. Being able to deal with this is very important, and I had to study basic counselling skills and ethical behaviour in order that I would be competent in this area. I don't believe that this kind of thing can be taught & assessed, along with the theory & practice of the modality, in such short spaces of time. There is nothing worse than opening a sensitive clients can of worms during a treatment and then dealing with it in a sloppy way. It is for all these reasons that I would like to see some sort of regulatory body over holsitic therpies.

That's definitely a huge problem too. Although I have the impression that alternative medicine is becoming more and more acceptable these days, at least over here.

I also agree with everything else you said. There are also many people who see the "healing business" as an easy way to earn money. And I personally think that money is the absolute worst motivation for healing...

DarkElectric  08 Jul 2003
I just got my Reiki II, and use crystal healing techniques as well.
As far as herbes go, I know something about it, but I'm not a Licensed Herbalist, so hen it comes to dispensing advice, the advice I dispense is "Please ask someone more qualified about this, I'm simply not".

Shysterism abounds in the Alt-Healing area. There have been problems here with unscrupulous, or less than knowledgeable folk who were running Sweat Lodges. Some people actually became quite ill because these were conducted improperly. Sweat Lodge is not safe for everyone. Severely obese people, athsmatics, diabetics, High blood pressure sufferers or those with heart, kidney or pulmonary disease are not good candidates for obvious reasons. Especially if the lodge isn't being done right. This is a disaster in the making, and several people in the USA have become quite ill. Some have died because of it.

I think personal ethics in healing are extremely important. I see myself as a vessel, a conduit for the energies. I am not the source. I feel that as a practitioner, I am in service to the Divine, and the people around me. Whomever asks me for some form of asistance, I am only the one bringing it through from point A to point B. Nothing more, nothing less. I feel that ego interferes with effectiveness, and can lead to ugly problems. So, I try to keep myself in check, thank the Divine for allowing me to be of service, and try to keep an attitude of grattitude. It works for me.

I like Reiki because it's effective, and extremely safe, to both the practitioner, and the person receiving the Reiki. Crystal healing works for me in much the same way Reiki does. Sometimes I combine the two. I'm also learning about singing bowls, and sound energy healing. But one of the things I always ask someone, is if they are seeing a Physician for any health problems they are having. If they tell me they aren't, I suggest they do so, because I feel that Reiki is NOT a substitute for medical attention. I think it can really help in conjunction with it, but shouldn't be used to replace it.

The Enchanter  09 Jul 2003
I'm really interested in any kind of healing that doesn't have to do with drugs. But I haven't gotten deep enough into it that i know what i really "do" yet.

bec  10 Jul 2003
I will get my Reiki 1 in september, looking very much forward to it :)

I do reflexology, massage, shiatsu, bach flowers, ear candles, adviser of nature medicine and eating habbits,

I like herbs, aromatherapy and oils - these are on the experimental stage and I dont use them in treatments unless I have a client who is confident in me and asks to be a guinypig :)

Sayonaran  15 Jul 2003
(been mulling for a while wether to post this or not. That changed today!)

I don't know if you'll call this 'healing' in the technical or physical sense. Here's how it works:

Someone I know is in some type of pain. (I usually can sense it before they tell me). When I touch them, whatever they were feeling at the moment goes away (but is transferred to me, ouch!)
They say I have an unnatural warm touch (I don't see how, my hands are always ice cold), and the pain never returns. After I'm out for about a week (exhausted and hurting), I'm back to normal, things are fine.

I realized I could do this since I was young, and because of that I was out ill most of the time. I'm never out that long though...

I still do this sometimes, only if someone asks me to (I have limits). That's all I have to say.

zorya  15 Jul 2003
sayonaran, by keeping energy flowing through you as opposed to into you, you should be able to prevent causing harm to yourself.

i feel energy flowing down into me through my head and out my feet. at the same time, i also feel energy flowing up from the ground through my feet and out the top of my head. you can cause serious harm to yourself by only taking in energy and holding it there.

another thing that might help, would be to shake off the pain/disease/negative energy periodically or to stop and rinse off your hands with cold water.

bec  15 Jul 2003
saynaran, I experience the same deal, people telling me I have a "special touch" only that "touch of whatever" drain me completely dry and I have trouble even breathing.

That is why I want reiki1 as to learn HOW to control the healing powers, channel them instead of using my own life-force/source.

Could be you want to consider too getting attuned to reiki - there is a whole universe of energies to make use of, we only need to "plugin", that is what is NOT happening when I and as you write you heal others.

Ruby Red Slippers  15 Jul 2003
Dear Friends:

What one needs to learn is how to allow the energy to flow “through you” not “in you”, as stated by Zorya.

I am a Reiki Master and a Shamballa multidimensional healer. I believe we all have the power to heal and act as a bridge for the universal energy.
All of the information you need to awaken this energy is in every one of us. The attunements of Reiki and Shamballa only awaken these energetic forces within us, and we “remember” how to access the energy of the Mother/Father Source. A Master does not “put these attunements in you”, they only act as the bridge to allow your own awakening to happen. In that way you can allow the energy to work "through you" and you will benefit from the experience, rather than feel exhausted after the experience.

Shamballa is a little different slant on the energy work from Reiki. I am more than happy to share more about this, if there is an interest.

Blessings,
Ruby Red Slippers

Astraea  15 Jul 2003
Hi, Ruby Red Slippers. I've not heard of Shamballa healing and would like to learn something about it -- thank you for offering to share on the subject!

Ruby Red Slippers  15 Jul 2003
Shamballa Multidimensional Energy Healing?

It is an energy healing method similar to but different and more intense than Reiki. They are both methods of 'energy healing’, which tap into chi (universal energy) and direct it into someone else's body to help them balance and heal themselves. We don't claim to actually be the one doing the healing, as it is the one on the table who is healing themselves, but by bringing in the energy and helping to focus it into the client, he/she is able to bring healing to themselves. It is a fine distinction, but a very important one.

Shamballa energy is multidimensional in nature, not only working on the physical level, but all levels. Like Reiki is travels where it needs to go in the body and the energy field. Shamballa works not only on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels, but also through to the deepest levels of cellular memory, DNA and to the highest vibrations of the energy body.

The true goal is the individual's spiritual experience, coupled with increased understanding and awareness. Many of the symbols and meditations used in the Shamballa system of healing are for personal awareness and awakening.

Shamballa Reiki it is not only a system of healing, it is a way of accelerating your spiritual development.. The work of Shamballa is spiritual in nature, but can be used by anyone, on any spiritual path. It requires only a belief in connection to Spirit, love and healing through intent and energy.

Here is the Shamballa home page -

http://www.mahatma.co.uk/p2.htm

or you can research it on google also.

Thank you for this explanation and providing the link, Ruby Red Slippers. :)

Sayonaran  16 Jul 2003
I never get drained when I do this. I don't know how to let this energy 'pass through' and I've tried various methods and they haven't worked.
On another note, if I develop the same symptoms of the person I've touched and see the doctor, they always say that I'm fine, nothing's wrong, etc. I was even labeled a hypocondriac!

... I still can't get used to it after all these years, but I guess it's there for a reason.

Ruby Red Slippers  16 Jul 2003
Sayonaran:

Are you interested in developing a way to use yourself as a healing messenger?

If you are, Reiki or Shmaballa MDH can be a form of awakening within you the process to allow energy to flow through you without it getting "stuck" in you.

Short of this I would offer the following suggestion. ALWAYS, prior to doing this, GROUND yourself. Think of roots growing from your feet to the center of the earth. Ask that the energy from the other person flow down those roots and the earth to absorb the energy, releasing you from its hold in your body. then release yourself from the roots and the energy will stay within the earth to be transmuted, not in you.

Hope this helps.

Blessings,
Ruby Red Slippers

Sayonaran  17 Jul 2003
Well, I've tried several grounding techniques, even letting loose of extra energy into this large gem of bloodstone that I found and own. That helps a bit, but I still have extra bits left. I feel as if I'm a laptop battery. I have some charge left, but it's never drained all the way to get rid of it until the next time you have to plug it in.
I've noticed that if I don't ground myself irregardless, anything electronic (television, computer, radio, etc.) goes haywire.
It makes me want to tape myself to the darkest part of the earth and never get up.

If there's anything new I can learn, I'll do it (if it doesn't cost me that much... starving artist and poor programmer over here.)

By the way, what is a healing messenger?
