Literature Clues: 7 Wands

"...the most important thing of all is that there will be no battle tomorrow, Quintus Lutatius," said Sulla.

Catulus Caesar got to his feet, "No battle? Why?"

"Because you have a mutiny on your hands, and I'm its instigator."

----Adapted from 'First Man in Rome', Colleen McCullough

Should be easy (I think). Any takers? It should be noted that Catulus Caesar (not THE Julius) as depicted in this book was a old-fashioned imbecile who favoured pride over military strategy, and was about to lead his soldiers into an obvious trap - thus there was a struggle for the command of the army to avoid this.

5 of swords

Moongold  26 Apr 2003
I'll say firstly 10 Swords because I think from memory Caesar was "stabbed' in the back?

The other guess is Ace Swords because there's the image is of a sole hand, holding a sword with a crown, It looks like a done deed.

Seven of Swords?

Demonesse  26 Apr 2003
No, sorry! Do keep trying. Urgh, I hope I am not putting too much of my own spin on the card.

Two of Wands  26 Apr 2003
Oh, I know, I know! Seven of Wands?

Moongold  26 Apr 2003
6 Wands because the guy instigating the mutiny is the Victor?

Moongold  26 Apr 2003
How about DEATH?

I an't remember the story, Did he kill Catullus Caesar?

Logiatrix  26 Apr 2003
how about the page of swords?

Moongold  26 Apr 2003
Oh, beaut call Metaz!

Two of Wands  26 Apr 2003
Yeah, I think Metz might be onto something there too!

Two of Wands, you have it with the 7 of Wands!

Explanation: I used this situation not only because it represents struggle, but because like almost any other endeavour, creative military strategy is paramount to winning a war - and Catulus Caesar, due to his lack of the above, had become beseiged by his own centurions. Catulus Caesar does represent the lone figure against the others beseiging him in the 7 of Wands and he is rightully enitled to his position as general, but here he deserves the onslaught - he was leading his men into what he knew very well to be certain death. We cannot rest on our laurels, after all, or someone will come along and steal them!
