"I am looking for someone to share an adventure that I'm arranging, and it's very difficult to find anyone" said Gandalf.

"I should think so - in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and I have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can't think what anybody sees in them." said our Mr Baggins... Then he took the morning letters, and began to read, pretending to take no more notice of the old man. He had decided he was not quite his sort, and wanted him to go away.

3rd Guess: (Too Obvious, I think)

The Magician.

Wasn't Gandalf a Wizard. I read the Hobbit 30 years ago :)

my two guesses:

1) The Hierophant .... Mr traditional, conformist, keeping withing society norms?

2) Temperance .... self control and moderation?

How come people have got multiple guesses all of a sudden?! :>

I'm afraid none of the guesses are right so far. Don't look too deep into this one; it's a quite literal translation of the base meaning of the card (at least from a Rider Waite perspective). I think the way it's written, it's quite humourous. This is meant just to be a fun little look at what the card is saying without going deep into its various aspects.

P.S Yes Gandalf is a Wizard and he certainly would fit the Magician Card very well, but he is simply an component of this card, not the main feature! :)

Have fun!

Hi Two Wands.

I've gravitated to having more than one guess because quite often the clue could quite logically have more than one solution.

It might not in the originator's eyes because it is always subjective.

It just saves time and money coming back frequently to have more than one guess :).

I actually recognised this possibility by sometimes giving the "prize" to people whose deductive processes were spot on, even though they didn't name my first choice, but I knew from the beginning there could have been more than one answer!

We actually haven't had any rules and I don't think we really need them. I don't personally mind if people have more than one go.

What do others think, though?

I think the only trouble with multiple guesses all in one go is that it discourages other people from posting if you've chosen one of their's but it matters not in the least to me, and seeing as there are no rules in Tarot, there's certainly no need for them here :)

I think we may need more clues to work on here TW :O)

More clues eh? Well I can explain the context of the paragraph.

This is the first time that Gandalf speaks to Bilbo (Mr Baggins). Bilbo is simply leading his cosy, introverted life in the beautiful and peaceful Shire. There, he feels safe, comfortable and relaxed, but perhaps underneath are feelings of boredom and a desire for something more. Gandalf, a magical being, suddenly appears in his life offering new adventures, friendships and opportunities, but Bilbo is refusing to even consider such things. His first reaction, as stated in the passage, is to ignore the offering and turn his attention back to the safe little world that he knows so well.

ahhhhh, 4 Cups

Two of Wands  11 May 2003
Precisely.

Later, of course, Bilbo relents and takes what Gandalf is holding out to him and he is given a whole new lease of life, friends, adventures, skills, learns new things about himself and eventually comes into great riches because of it.

Back to you Allibee :) :) :) :)

okie dokey, I shall disappear for a while to develop a new teaser for you all :O)
