How about a distinct clue from a somewhat obscure literary source? Well, it isn't all that obscure, being probably his most well known work. But it isn't at the top of the best seller list right now :)
"Do you have courage, O my brothers? Are you brave?
Not courage before witnesses, but the courage of hermits, and eagles, which is no longer watched, even by a god.
Cold souls, mules,the blind and the drunken I do not call brave.
Brave is he who knows fear, but CONQUERS fear, who sees the abyss, but with PRIDE. Who sees the abyss, but with the eyes of an eagle,who grasps the abyss with the talons of an eagle- that man has courage."
~Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus spoke Zarathustra, part 4~
Now, which card would have the kind of "Tude" it would take to deliver a speech like that?

Re: Nietzsche.
My first guess would be "The Chariot." But then, that might be a bit too easy.
I'll go with 9 of Wands.

I have the fool in mind, He is both brave and daring, and sometimes does the unthinkable causing others to turn a blind eye, or just turn away ! :)

Well... this thread started up while I was out sick... but I'll jump in now and give it a try...
"Courage" makes me think of Knights. Your Nietzsche verse immediately made me think of;
The Knight of Swords

The Hermit? He shows courage that no-one sees :) .....Grasps the abyss without an audience...

British Empire... The Emperor?
Always thought of him as a bit of a cold hearted megalomanic me'self, LOL

Yes, it is the Emperor.
I don't think of him that way, although he can be sometimes. I see him as very courageous, a leader and motivational force.
