A very dear friend of mine had a special yet long journey to make. His mother, who had long since parted from his father, lived over 1500 miles away, and was about to remarry, and she really wanted my friend to ‘give her away’ at the wedding. The obvious thing was to go by plane and so he booked up tickets for himself and his daughter. Unfortunately his estranged wife had other ideas.
The obvious choice then was to travel alone, but he had a fear of flying without the daughter he was devoted to, in case ‘something’ happened. He is absolutely ‘one’ with his little girl, and had only ever been distanced by horizontal miles, never vertical ones.
The other choice was a rather less speedy road trip, and so he asked me what advice the cards held.
Whilst I was shuffling for a large spread looking at all the pros and cons of each option I had two cards fly out of the deck and land face down on my table. I was going to pop them back in and shuffle again when my inner voice told me ‘No’.
Two cards can’t be enough for an in-depth reading for this gentleman, I thought. There is something larger going on here that we need to look at so I decided to use another card for clarification
2 Wands, 5 Cups, ?????
There are no set positions for the first two cards, and they are simply ‘there’.
The two described his dilemma quite well. Here he wants very much to go on this trip but finds himself at a crossroads and an important decision needs making. He is desperate to make plans but there is this huge obstacle in his way. The confrontation of his fear. He’s in a really uncomfortable situation, a place deep inside where he feels he has no control and it’s bringing up all his old fears and insecurities.
The 5 Cups is telling him that reassessment is required. There is a very unhealthy focus and attachment to a certain kind of obsessive feeling and it’s necessary to let it go and move on.
In summary, these two cards tell him that’s it’s necessary to stop stagnating in a form of mourning for something that hasn’t even happened and to broaden his horizons. Change is in the air – literally and figuratively – and leads us to the clarification card just mentioned, which reinforces and brings the 2 and 5 together.
Carpe Diem …. Seize the day
“Dead Poets Society reminds us to seize each day and cherish them dearly. Every day opportunities await us and we must decide whether to take the chance or play it safe. I encourage you to take the risks, for nothing is gained without them. ”
Good luck

I'm sorry to be late back, but it's a holiday weekend here.
Bec got it straight away, well done, tis indeed the Chariot: bringing together this 'coniunctio oppositorum' Jungs union of opposites in the 2 Wands.
The Chariots lesson is here is to take control - sieze the day - Carpe Diem, and the 2 and 5 together = 7 .... the Chariot. He is the motivation and determination to break free of the stagnation by not letting his emotions rule his life.
Now the Chariot you may think would indicate a roadtrip, but on the front of the RW is a pair of wings, indicating there is power here from a higher plane .... did I say plane? hehehe
Over to bec
