Fred is a colleague of mine. He’s in his late fifties and coming up to retirement. He dotes on his grandchildren and loves every minute with them. He has always got on reasonably well with his son but a week ago he had a massive row with him over a family matter and threatened to cut him out of his will and have nothing more to do with him. A week later he is beginning to realise that this might mean that he never sees his grand children again.
He asked me what he should do and was a bit surprised when I pulled out some Tarot cards but agreed to go ahead with a reading.
I dealt the following cards:
8 of Swords: Well you do seem to be in an anxious and worrying situation but I think you have boxed yourself in in terms of alternatives. I think you have to face your fears and try to resolve the situation in some way because I don’t see anyone else doing it for you.
4 of Cups – OK you are depressed about the situation but there’s no use sitting around and feeling sorry for yourself, you have to grasp for a solution. Think hard about what you want and what needs to be done to achieve it.
????? This looks a bit promising but I’m not sure. I think you might be able to patch things up after the quarrel, whether you can put Humpty Dumpty together again I’m no so sure
OK I'm not very good at Tarot so this is either going to be
(a) easy coz its obvious
(b) difficult coz I'm a lousy reader LOL

Bet you it's a Baton.
How about a nine of Batons/Wands/Rods/Rolling Pins..... (Dagobert, go away, you're not a member of this forum.)

Diana - does that count as 14 guesses or just one LOL
No sorry its not the nine of Batons (Wands, sticks, rolling pins or fire wood)
Ahh shouldn't have said Fire Wood - that might cause elemental confusion - and I'm not taking stick line things as Fire.

6 of Swords? That seems like an attempt at peacemaking to me.

No clues!
Death?
On my deck, there are all sorts of arms and legs and feet and chopped off heads. That could be Humpty Dumpty, right?

Darn! And now it's time for my beddy-byes. I wonder who will have guessed this one before the sun rises......

Well its also beddy-byes for me too. I've got to be up and away to work in the morning.
Is there a time limit on these games? Mind you 78 posts should be bound to get it LOL or much less if Diana continues to guess in bundles (that was not a clue)

ahhh, you Europeans and your different time zone ;-).
This is a toughie. Ok, how about the Tower? Here's what tarot basics says about it:
"When the Querent gets this card, they can expect to be shaken up, to be blinded by a shocking revelation. It sometimes takes that to see a truth that one refuses to see. Or to bring down beliefs that are so well constructed. What's most important to remember is that the tearing down of this structure, however painful, makes room for something new to be built."

It only looks promissing but is it? darn what card is that???

Two guesses in one, does that disqualify me?????

Way out on a limb and I already hear it cracking...
Are his grandchildren the treasures in the 7 of pents?

No to all of those but bec is getting warmer!!!!
Diana said no clues but can I remind you that I'm only learning so on first sight the card looked like a good answer, for Fred. Then I thought about it a little and I was not sure whether things would be as good as they seemed.
Hopefully that's not too much of a clue because it restates what was in the original post!
If no one has solved it by the time I get home from work I'll start putting clues in, no matter what Diana says LOL

3 cups.
looks like things gonna be great and fun (dunno the deck you used, assuming waite/smith based, so 3cups is the partycard), but it might turn out not so happy.

The Fool. (Although with your "getting warmer" with the 3 of Cups, I suppose if we were trying to win the lottery or something with this, we should be going through all the cups.....)

No and No and Yes (If you can work that out)
So I turn over a card - it seems to suggest just what Fred wants - making up the quarrel and back to old times just like he remembers.
Also Fred like me, wears tinted glasses - different colour though.

I have to go and pick my wife up from work and take her to the supermarket to do the week's shopping, so Diana has about two hours or so the work through all the lottery cards to find the right number.

And we have a Winner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Missmezzo - Well Done.
The six of cups seems to suggest a happy ending for Fred - there's children on it and Fred's main concern is his grandchildren. There are several references to the card as being associated with making up a quarrel - and the gift of flowers seems to suggest just that and Fred's query about what to do implies he wants to make up the quarrel.
The six of Cups is also associated with Nostalgia - and at that point I begin to think that something may not be quite right. Fred's longing to put things back as they were but Nostalgia is a longing for a world that has passed away and cannot return. I am therefore unsure - as in the question as to whether making up the quarrel really means putting everything back together again - but Humpty Dumpty cannot be put back together again following the break no matter what effort is put in. Perhaps Fred and his son may try and patch things up but can they ever recover the world that Fred thinks he may have lost?
Over to you Missmezzo

My gypsy fortune teller always tells me not to bother to play the lottery. She says I will never be rich. :(
Congralations to missmezzo, and thanks to Minderwiz for this very interesting exercice.

Diana,
You seem to be as good at picking of lottery numbers as I am forecasting football results :)
I did put in a warning that I'm not a good reader but to be honest the sequence was one that I had to read in a Tarot course I did - and I based the question on that.
The problem is of Fred's making, he is thinking through what he has done and what to do next and the six of cups seemed to suggest that all would be well. It might be the Saturn coming out in me but I don't think big bust-ups and threats to cut people out of your will and never see them again can simply be remedied overnight. He doesn't seem that interested in his son - only the grandchildren. When I read up on the six of cups there were several writers who see darker overtones to it and I must admit that struck a chord - I didn't think this would come out as good as new.

Now I get it. Yes, there is a darker side to nostalgia if it clouds your view of the present reality. I hope Fred can work this out.

Thanks Missmezzo but you've got the hard part coming - setting the next mystery card quiz :)
You can quote from a post by pressing the 'quote' button at the bottom. You'll find that it gives you the entire post, so you'll have to edit it down to the section you want - There may be a better way but I must admit that's what I do.

Tomorrow sounds fine to me. I've still got a couple of days work before the Summer vacation starts, so it will give me a chance to get work out of the way and then join in.
