OK - I know who I think has just opened the door - do you agree with me?
"Well this is my back yard - my back gate
I hate to start my parties late
Here's the party cart - ain't that great?
That ain't the best part baby - just wait!
That's a genuine weathervane - it moves with the breeze
A portable hammock baby - who needs trees?
It's casual entertaining - we aim to please
at my parties
Check out the shingles - it's brand new
Excuse me while I mingle - hi, how are you?
Hey everybody - let me give you a toast
This one's for me - the host with the most!
It's getting a trifle colder - step inside my home
That's a brass toilet tissue holder with its own telephone
That's a musical doorbell - it don't ring, I ain't kiddin'
Plays America the Beautiful and Tie a Yellow Ribbon
Boy, this punch is a trip - it's o.k. in my book
Here, take a sip - maybe a little heavy on the fruit
Ah, here comes the dip - you may kiss the cook
Let me show you honey - it's easy - look
You take a fork and spike 'em - say, did you try these?
So glad you like 'em - the secret's in the cheese
It's casual entertaining - we aim to please
at my parties
Now don't talk to me about the polar bear
Don't talk to me about the ozone layer
Ain't much of anything these days, even the air!
They're running out of rhinos - what do I care?
Let's hear it for the dolphin - let's hear it for the trees
Ain't running out of nothing in my deep freeze
It's casual entertaining - we aim to please
at my parties.....

no, no, it's -- the Page of Cups.

ummm... the Queen of Coins, she has it all and wants to share it with everyone, living in the moment, giving her all. ???

All good answers, but nobody's come up with the person I had in mind......

Nice try, Luna, and I follow the logic but no. Although he is, of course, the master of deception and could well be masquerading....
And there I was thinking I was being too obvious!
By the way, Rota - a party hosted by Death would be fantastic (speaking as a Scorp!): boogie till you drop!!!

Got to be a Coin....
Page of Coins?

Sorry, Diana: have to admit I wasn't seeing coins. I was focussing more on the braggadocio - the obvious attempts at social climbing, the ambition....
I think they're serious when they say "Look at me - the host with the most!"

Nine of Cups?

Gee, this is hard. I'm not so good at Rider Waite type of interpretations.
Could it be the 10 of Cups?

Sorry - not 10 Cups: I see that as the epitome of Cups. I don't see this person as quite as happy as they make out: they've got a lot but they're still keen to impress. I think appearances definitely matter to them.... It's a shame I can't get the tone of the sung version across - flippant yet defiant.

The Hierophant's an interesting thought but I had a Minor in mind - more specifically a court card....

Sorry, Major Tom - close in one way but not in another (hint hint!).
Dark Angel - interesting: I do understand the Swords (although I may not agree in the final analysis) but I didn't feel our host had quite made it to the top of the tree - still too busy trying to impress, which I don't think the King would be. I would have expected the Queen of Cups to slap the speaker round the face when they say "let's hear it for the dolphins..."! After all, she CARES passionately about all those poor creatures.....
Oh, Diana - you're just going to kick yourself! :(
Black Dragon - somehow I don't see the Queen of Wands: I don't see her as needing to put on this show. I suggest you get together with Major Tom (more hint, hint!)....
Edited to add:-
Sorry, Macavity - didn't mean to ignore you! Sounds as if your suggestion will be very welcome once the hangovers kick in. But I was looking for a Court card.

Yes, Dark Angel: congratulations!
As you know, I felt this guy wasn't quite "there" yet - he has aspirations and a certain amount of clout but the way he still needs to point out his prized possessions and how great he is just didn't tie in with the Kings (who I hope behave a bit better!) or Queens.
I was tempted by Swords (the apparently flippant yet carefully thought out ripostes might have pointed in that direction) but I felt that he was just trying too hard: it didn't come naturally as I would expect it to for a Sword - and there was so much emphasis on "look at me - I'm so great" this is definitely no shy, retiring wallflower: he's pushy, ambitious and fun to be with - so it had to be Wands!
So - take it away, Dark Angel!
