Do you know that places only yield up their secrets, their most profound mysteries, to those who are just passing through?

Hmm, something to do with movement revealing mystery... Something that doesn't sit still for long, yet still manages to tun in to that 'something'.
I've got a few ideas, but I'll go for...
6 of Swords?
Just passing through: transition, a phase.

I'd go for the High Priestess - mysteries revealed to those passing through the curtain between the pillars (B & J)

The Moon?
(I'm not sure why, the quote just made me think of that card)

It's more subtle than what you're all suggesting.

Strength?
I'm stumped a little, and am obviously thinking in the wrong direction...
I'll wait for others to post to re-direct my thoughts or read the quote in a new light...

Is this a hint that the answer is specific to a particular deck or just that looking at any deck shoud have the desired effect ? :) :)

Minderwiz: I think that any deck should do the trick - unless it's something really weird, like the Sacred Circle or something. But a normal, sensible deck should, I think, give the answer.
Don't forget however, that "places only yield up their secrets, their most profound mysteries, to those who are just passing through?" :D
jmd: sleep well! Don't forget to brush your teeth!
Moongold: five of Pentacles is not it.

It's getting nice and warm around here, except for the occasional cool breeze. I think I will remove my sweater, however.

After studying Firemaiden's thread on MP's Hanged Man, I'll suggest him.
The Hanged Man?

Well, I've looked and looked at the cards and if jmd has been driven to bed by the difficulty of this :) then what chance have I?
I'll try the Hermit - he is clearly on his way to somewhere, with his staff and lantern, so he could be 'passing through' he is also searching for something - the answer to a mystery?
However I don't see where the warmth and the sweater fit in - unless the lantern is a double candle burner.

Moongold has won. :)
The Cavalier de Coupes - the Knight of Cups it is.
"Do you know that places only yield up their secrets, their most profound mysteries, to those who are just passing through?"
Of course, Cavaliers always just pass through. Their horses take them on fascinating journeys. The Cavalier de Coupes has journeyed quite a lot - he is rather tired actually - he deserves a little gift of a secret, a profound mystery. He is here to pick up the message, but at the same time, is also here to give us a message - a message held in his Cup - which hints at the Holy Grail. He is one of the keepers of this Holy Cup.
He knows that the past is in the past - and nothing can change it. He also knows that if he stays where is his, his Quest will be in vain - he must go on.
He fixes the Cup intently because he knows that the visions that he sees inside it will soon change - as all things change (please all look at the Cavaliers de Coupes in a Tarot of Marseilles - if you don't have a Tarot of Marseilles, then what on earth are you waiting for? Get yourself one for Christmas because if you don't have one in your collection then you're really missing out on an important part of the Mystery of Tarot. Don't forget, you're just passing through in this life!)
The Cavalier de Coupes will teach you about Love. And he will remind you that "He who binds to himself a joy Does the winged life destroy; But he who kisses the joy as it flies Lives in Eternity's sunrise." (William Blake.)
Over to you, Moongold.

Thank you Diana,
I did not have such a noble view of the Cavalier de Coupe but now I've learned something.
Doi I start anew thread now? I will need a few minutes to get a text.

I'll do it if nescessary - but if there's anyone else who wants to do it then please please go ahead.
In the mean time I'll see if I've got a book that isn't Stephen King or Isaac Asimov which is available with a meaningful quote :)
