Trevize: Here we are with our ship under outside control and being drawn inexorably to a a world we know nothing about. Do you feel panic?

Trevize: 'You see that I'm still in a state where I can indulge in cool, analytical reasoning. Very odd! or can I tell? Am I in a panic, incoherent, mad or merely under the illusion that I'm indulging in cool analytical reasoning?'

Pelorat: 'You seem sane to me. Perhaps I am as insane as you and am under the same illusion. All humanity could share a common insanity and be immersed in a common illusion, while living in a common chaos. That can't be disproved but we have no choice but to follow our senses'

On their ship being seized in a tractor beam by Gaia

Isaac Asimov, Foundation's Edge.

This one's fairly straightforward I think, I didn't have time to construct anything particularly cunning.

Moon?

......or The Devil?

Minderwiz  25 Nov 2003
Gloria Wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the Devil - Whilst it could have been the Moon, on the basis of illusion, self deception or insanity - they are not insane when they question their own sanity, nor are they deceiving themselves.

However they are feeling trapped and hopeless, they feel stuck in a confining situation and imprisoned. Both in this extract and in much of the rest of the scene (I would have add some more clues if nescessary) their thinking is virtually entirely negative - yet they have their means of escape - to simply follow their senses and trust what they see, hear, etc rather than giving way to their fears and negative thoughts.

Over to you Gloria
