What’s in a name?
That which we call a rose...... by any other name would smell as sweet.
From Romeo and Juliet. (but don't let that fool you!)

Kaz  25 Nov 2003
death

Dark_angel  25 Nov 2003
7 of Cups?

Mystic Zyl  25 Nov 2003
Ace of Cups.......we love what we love without explanation.

jmd  25 Nov 2003
I would have also said XIII...

but as taken, and as the Ace Cups is also taken (my second choice), how about XVII the Star, which is sometimes connected with smell?

gloria  26 Nov 2003
No so far.
Forget about roses and their scent, think about the quote as a whole and it's meaning.

Star Spirit  26 Nov 2003
I think I might get the meaning you were aiming at but it's hard to pick the right card...

Is it the Moon?

Minderwiz  26 Nov 2003
The Sun

or possibly Justice - the name doesn't matter the deed does

gloria  26 Nov 2003
There is a twist, so I feel it only fair that I give you a Major clue.
It's a Trump!

aqua  26 Nov 2003
The Lovers

this was in regards to the previous question, ive no idea how it landed here lmao

gloria  26 Nov 2003
Sorry Aqua but not Lovers.

Minderwiz  26 Nov 2003
Temperance?

Mystic Zyl  26 Nov 2003
Wheel of Fortune?

gloria  26 Nov 2003
You'll have to figure these two lines out to get there.

What's in a name?

I've given you a Major clue, it's a Trump card. :)

Star Spirit  26 Nov 2003
The Tower!

Dark_angel  26 Nov 2003
The Empress?

jmd  26 Nov 2003
... part of the reason I thought it may have been XIII is because of the 'what's in a name'... another aspect is the vocalising, naming...

yet another would be the 'mis-naming', or maybe the act of judging a book by its cover, yet its heart by any other name would smell just as sweet (though a bath may have helped :)):
    the Fool?

gloria  27 Nov 2003
What's in a name?
Trump is another term or name for Major Arcana.
You just have to combine the two lines here to get your answer.

Star Spirit  27 Nov 2003
Justice?

gloria  27 Nov 2003
The word 'Trump' means...........?
That should lead you to the card in question.

Star Spirit  27 Nov 2003
You've really got me confused gloria....either this is a trick and it's not a Trump, or there's something else I'm not seeing.

The Hierophant? I say this because the name might confuse people who didn't know the meaning. But it is what it is no matter what you call it.

gloria  27 Nov 2003
Trump/Triumphs... another term for Major Arcana......I must confess now even to me maybe clue a bit obscure, seemed like a good idea at the time.
Right so what Major links with Triumph?

Star Spirit  27 Nov 2003
Hmm yes, you think more deeply than some of us. I tried though. I'm guessing you mean the Chariot, I almost guessed that a few tries ago but it was for another reason, so I steered away from it. Well if that is it I can't really say I "won" this game because you kind of gave it away. Not that it's your fault I'm unenlightened :)

The reason I guessed the Moon and the Tower is because the quote generally means not to judge a book by its cover, so I thought about being misled; ie. being lied to (the Tower) or having illusions (the Moon). Also, because the Moon is related to poetry, as is the quote. You were thinking more obscurely however :)

jmd  27 Nov 2003
Looks like you've won this one, Dead Star :)

I guess what threw me was the cryptic self-referential aspect of 'what's in a name'...

I presume it was the Chariot ;)

Well thrown, gloria !

errr.... just in case it wasn't, what about the.... no, I'll wait :)

gloria  27 Nov 2003
Ooh Dead Star I do apologize, and fancy you ‘steering’ away from the Chariot like that.
My fault entirely, I don’t know what came over me.
But yes, there are those that say the original card game of trumps or tarocchi was based on ‘triumphal’ marches in which carts such as that in the Chariot card were used.
I think I should have taken another route with that damned Charioteer. :(

Over to you Dead Star........

Star Spirit  27 Nov 2003
I'm guessing I have to start a new thread? Haha I've never done this before...
