I am not lame, yet look lamed.
With Sulphur I may bring catharsis...

Oh God JMD!
I am going for Temperance, the angel here seems as if she could be concocting a potion for relief.
I doubt very much if I am on right track though.

The Devil - reach out for the outstretched arm of God and be saved - Sulphur is a reputed element of Hell and the Devil - break the chains and undergo catharsis?????

Justice.....because it appears that there is no justice, that the legal system is lame........sulphur is unpleasant but a necessary element.....catharsis, putting an end to something as in a court trial.

...I can see how each of these could be the card... but thought I would word it in such ways as to lead off-track: it worked ;)
...and I really like everyone's posted explanations.
But, as yet, none of these :)

The Tower?
Something I came across yesterday whilst trying to unravel the clue.

Well the letter Lamed looks sort of like the symbol for Saturn (in a certain light) and if I was into the GD stuff I would say that Saturn is associated with

Knight of Swords?
In the Medieval Scapini tarot, he only wears one boot, his other foot is bare. He also rides to war; isn't sulphur a chemical used in gunpowder? So, with sulphur, the knight could bring catharsis.
This is SO HARD! lol.

Mystic Zyl has it :)
The hanged man, especially in earlier decks, actually follows the form of the twelth letter of the Hebrew alphabet Lamed (I suspect one of the reasons why the tied leg may have been inversed is to loose that visual similarity and its earlier assumed connection between this letter and card).
I therefore played with the word 'lamed', as he (usually) has one leg/foot folded - as though unusable.
His overall frame is at times said to reflect the alchemical symbol of Suphur, and his overall state permits him to see things from an altered viewpoint, which may reflect an initiatic experience, and can certainly be cathartic.
I hope I didn't make it too obscure :)
