I know what the BMT is, but what are mandrakes?
|
| tmgrl2 |
19 Mar 2004 |
|
Oh, dear, firemaiden did a reading recently where she saw mandrakes and it sparked a whole discussion of the appearance of mandrakes in decks...mandrakes were plants that shrieked when pulled up by the roots...could cause insanity in one who pulled them up (acc. to stories)..also the juice was valued to cure "insanity" and so black dogs or dogs were chained to the roots and lured to pull up roots by throwing meat towards them...some conjecture about why the Fool brings a dog with him? One deck has human /mandrakes below the Moon. Another theme is that when an unjust man is hanged (hanged man) a mandrake grows beneath the gallows...this is just a summary...
oops....
Does this answer your mandrake question without my having to search for the threads? Does this count as answering a question with a question? Or is Diana coming after me now?

OK, you asked, so, do you know what a PinkToe Tarantula is?
Do you know that I breed tarantulas?
And would you have ever guessed that I was up most of the night (and every 2 hours after that) because I had an egg sack from a PinkToe that I opened up and put into the incubator? (it's a very delicate process as the babies are very tiny... told you it wasn't naughty :D )

Not naughty? But doesn't it have to do with making babies?

Did you know that they aren't hairy yet LOL? (and so far all 80 or 90 of them are doing just fine :) )

ROFLMAO at OakDragon - Do you think it might be a good idea to be wearing a parachute if you try dispelling your fear that way?
Luna, do you want to get over your fear of spiders? Did you know that if you do a pinktoe is the way to go? (very gentle, only about 5 or 6" when adult, tough as nails and easy to care for)

If you do will you leave me all your tarot decks?

Well, don't you know that if you leave the sack with the mother until they hatch that it is holy hell trying to catch all the little buggers :D? Also, did you know that it is usually healthier for the babies to take them when they are almost ready to hatch since opening the sack and putting them into a hammock incubator allows for better air circulation and an almost 90% survival rate as opposed to about 50% if mom does it?
(Oakdragon has a good idea, lunch!)

No, I didn't know all that, but now I do... and do you know, now I'm interested in learning more about rearing tarantulas?
Also, can you imagine the mental image I got of you trying to catch teeny baby spiders? *rotfl*

sorry to change the subject, but...
....... _N_, did you know I never heard of Pink Toed Tarantulas ! Can you get them in Australia..?
.......and, do you have any kids or only the baby spiders to look after?
........and if you have kids, do they like the spiders too?
(sorry Oaky baby, too many questions again i suppose) :*

Did you know that I don't think you can get PinkToes in Australia, since they come from South America? Doesn't Australia have a ban of importing species which could naturalize?
Did you know that we are unable to have kids so I substitute with baby spiders (and rats and tropical roaches and cats and guinea pigs and... :D )?
Does it count if I don't have any kids myself who like the spiders but that I have friends kids who do?
And laura_borealis, did you know that I'm just now starting to get power surges at 40?
And Oakdragon, do you think that all my questions now gets Darkeyes off the hook for asking the most questions at once? :D :P
