Fun with scanners 101:
I found this postcard in a bookstore yesterday and it called out for me to share with you all... the artist is Rudi Hurzlmeier - the title is Robin Redbreast.
If you were going to use this image for a tarot card, which one would you pick? Why?

My thought was the Sun..and then the Lovers..
Because the butterfly is yellow..and that is just funny. And the lovers..Well ya dont neccesarily have to be the same looking for it to work out.

ACE OF WANDS, of course :D

Funny you say that Skytwig..Cuz i was thinking Ace of swords..More of an airy calculated feel..
The butterfly was a caterpillar so it transformed...but could that then go to death..Of the bird eating the butterfly that transformed from a caterpillar. (to much time on my hands? lol)

Definitely an ACE, Redwood...... The butterfly, perched so beautifully over the fat red birdie, said wands.... energy (red), birth (butterfly), flight (creation)
CREATIVITY
;) but i like your take on it too....... :)

I just like the picture, makes me feel happy, then sad summer is not here. So to me the card is 6 of cups, past memories of a warm summer. Brrrrrrrrrr I dislike cold weather!
Really there should be six flowers around the bird to be the six of cups.
Okay my REAL GUESS is Hermit. The bird is on his own to seek knowledge. I feel the yellow butterfly symbolizes the light in the Hermit's lantern.

Robin should learn to fly. He can't with his shoes on - they'll be a little bit too heavy. He can do it, if he tries. The butterfly will inspire and teach him - but I'm not sure he even knows the butterfly is there. Time to wake up, little Robin and enjoy the gifts that God has given you!
Six of cups.
(I see Mystic Zyl thinks so too... and we are working from different perspectives - from a RWS basis and a Marseilles basis. Great!)
Wonderful new game, firemaiden. Thank you!

You are all adorable. You are all winning. Keep it up. The robin is interested that Diana noticed his shoes. He thinks they are "the thing".

If we are talking about the shoes..
What about the Devil?
This bird can take off teh shoes and fly if it wants to but it doesn't. It is stuck within itself. The birds own worst enemy is itself cuz if he cant fly then he cant eat and sustain itself.

Ah, well, the shoes are really ELF shoes and he is a SHAPESHIFTER!!
So, I think he is our dear Magician or Juggler or whatever he/she feels like calling herself at the moment.......

high priestess..... because of the butterfly above the bird's head out of sight, sort of like your consious (not sure how to spell that). how you can make decisions and your intuition/ gut.
oretty much influences.. thats what i think of.

Ok, nobody get mad at me... please?
But the instant I saw it I was reminded of the Friends card in Froud's Faerie Deck...
I know that's cheating 'cause it's not a tarot deck...
*Goes back to the drawing board...*
Ok, based on my Osho Zen I'd say Six of Fire (Wands)

I'm afraid I have to go with the Death card! WHY! WHY! WHY!
I hear you all cry out. Well....... myth has it that the Robin Redbreast got his red breast whilst trying to remove the crown of thorns from Jesus head. Together with the butterly (transformation) I think there is no contest !!!!

Little Robin Redbreast sat upon a tree,
Up went pussy cat, and down went he;
Down came pussy, and away Robin ran;
Says little Robin Redbreast, Catch me if you can.
Little Robin Redbreast jumped upon a wall,
Pussy cat jumped after him, and almost got a fall;
Little Robin chirped and sang, and what did pussy say?
Pussy cat said, Mew, and Robin jumped away.
*******************************************
Little Robin Redbreast
Came to visit me;
This is what he whistled,
Thank you for my tea.

Hey firemaiden,
I love this, its great! How about you let it run a few days and then pick a winner and they then take a turn. What do you think???

I was just asking myself if it weren't time to pick a winner. (Of course, how do I choose??)
One might worry that the winner needs to have a scanner, yet if the truth be told, you can download just about any image off the internet by right clicking on it and choosing "save".

I was thinking that myself. I dont have a scanner but there is so much on the net that can be used.

I adored all of your entries, this was soo soo much fun, Skytwig's magician is my personal favorite interpretation...
Cards that came to mind for me when I first saw this little birdie were the Empress and the High Priestess, (I guess the redbreast is the boy robin, but I saw this birdie as very female...) I also thought of her as a page - not swords though, even though we have air-creatures here... perhaps a princess of pentacles or even cups, there is something "watery" in the birdie's gaze.
I also think Diana deserves a special prize for the poem. :)
I looked up a bit about the artist, he has won some prizes for caricature. (a big prize last year) and has some commercially available posters. He does a lot of birds with shoes. Here is another one that cries out to be made into a tarot card. (And who does this remind you of?)

Hiya all,
[/b] I am stuck between the hermit and the fool. I think the hermit, he looks a bit too knowing to be the fool. He seems to be pondering the meaning of life whilst chewing on a stalk of grass.

I think he could be the Hermit but he seems like he could also be the Magician... he's got this no non-sense conman look about him...like he has something hidden under that cloak of his.

I think Death. He is set on his job and knows he has to do it. Nothing frivolous about him because death is not frivolous (of any sort)

Well that would certainly be fitting as crows are associated with death.

When I saw the first picture I also thought about the Empress.
With this last one, I think that the Hermit is the most appropriate one. This picture reminds me of my Bosch deck, there's something about the crow...

Personally, I liked the "Pope gone a little bonkers..... "
But here, Mr. Raven is actually Mr. Pope... strolling between sermons, contemplating Kierkegaard and the spiritual dilemma of DOUBT! He does about 10 sermons each Sunday, which he absolutely adores.... but he is most fond of sitting by a well kept fire in his library of about 4,000 books.... Between sermons, he has time to chew on a bit of straw, smoke a pipe now and then, and consider the many Tomes of thought he digested during the week.......
this artist is already dear to my heart, she says, sighing gratefully........ :)

I'm torn.... I either think the fool because he looks like the Joker in the batman movies orrr I think he should have a big crown on and be the King of Swords, he looks like hes got a lot to say.

I would say the first (robin) is the Lovers, unless the robin plans to eat the butterfly, in which case it becomes Death.
The raven? I lean toward Hierophant. He's sort of staid in his posture, and thinking hard about something.
I'm really wondering about this artist. They're wonderful pictures, but why is he compelled to put shoes on his birds? You have to wonder. :)
The butterfly isn't wearing shoes, is it?
BTW, these are wonderful. The robin is especially adorable.

THESE pictures are REAL ELVES AND FAERIES!!! :D (really, they are....... ;) )
Now, I do have to add another perspective........ this teaches us something about RIGID THINKING!!
Imagine Mr Raven as the Lovers card
or, even better, The Star!!!
(maybe a Black Hole....... :joke: )

Thank you Firemaiden.... I have a little processing to do here to get a thread going.....
However, I did want to comment that this latest little guy has to be the Hermit.... my goodness, as Diana pointed out, he has slippers!!! And a little place to Hermitize in and, my goodness, he looks like we awoke him from a deep sleep.........

It is possible that this little lass could also be the 9 of pentacles...She seems to be quite content in her little garden with everything that she needs and is proud of !

You guys are adorable! Yes, shoes and slippers, I think he is a German bird, because everyone leaves their shoes at the door here. I like the 9 of p for this. Was thinking 9 of w maybe too... standing by as sentry... of course he could be the 9 of cups too. Hmmm and that times him in with the Hermit. Veeeeely intelesting...

This is a lot of fun isn't it,
These pics are great Firemaiden, I am really enjoying the innocence of these delightful little animals while we discuss the many possibilities. It's almost like they have come to life and we know them. Hehehehehe, they're so cute.
Nice thread firemaiden, you just have a way with this.
