What card am I (Lit. clues) 15th Dec. -Solved

Lady Mary  15 Dec 2003
Outside 809, Freddy took out his pistol, knocked on the door, and pressed his back against the wall. Hoke Moseley opened the door, saw no one, and took a step forward. Freddy, with a sweeping motion of the gun, caught Hoke on the side of the jaw. As Hoke fell sideways, Freddy had time for another backhand blow, and Hoke's false teeth flew out of his mouth and bounced on the dusty hall carpet. Freddy put the teeth into his jacket pocket and dragged the unconscious body inside the room. After closing the door, he kicked the supine man in the jaw with the point of his shoe. The jaw cracked audibly, and blood poured from Hoke's nose and mouth.

Charles Willeford: Miami Blues

PS.: I highly recommend the book and the movie!

EEEEwwwwww !

Nice one Lady Mary !

Could it be that he is getting his own back, balancing the scales.... JUSTICE ?

Five of Swords?

Lady Mary  15 Dec 2003
Sorry, it's neither Justice nor 5 of Swords.

Dark Eyes  15 Dec 2003
Perhaps the seven of swords?

I accidentally posted the page of swords but have edited it.

Diana  15 Dec 2003
Absolutely charming quote, Lady Mary. *Diana makes a mental note not to forget to pick up people's false teeth when she gives them a backhand blow*.

Knights correct wrongs. So I'll go for the Knight of Batons (Wands) in one of his really foul moods.

Lady Mary  15 Dec 2003
None of these cards.
Yeah, Diana, that's what I'm always doing. So I've a nice collection of false teeth at home. :D

Mystic Zyl  15 Dec 2003
wow, you must be like me, like action and war movies

7 of Wands

MattDouglas  15 Dec 2003
9 of Swords. Wants to make the guy suffer, but hasn't killed him which would be the ten.

sharon  15 Dec 2003
Emperor - asserting his authority.

Lady Mary  16 Dec 2003
Sorry, none of the so far suggested cards was in my mind when I posted this thread.

MattDouglas  16 Dec 2003
How about Strength. He took away the guys teeth and then cracked the Hoke's jaw. He's neutralized his bite, just as the maiden is doing to the lion, but in a far more aggressive way.

jmd  16 Dec 2003
I would too have suggested Strength, which at times is shown as either with a broken pillar or as Samson or Herakles clubing a lion... but as MattDouglas has already suggested this, how about XII the Hanged Man?

Lady Mary  16 Dec 2003
No - not Strength or Hanged Man.

jmd  16 Dec 2003
In RWCS imagery, how about the ten of Swords (though as pointed our earlier, the RWCS seems to imply a death - quite out of whack with what I personally would expect from Ten Swords)?

jmd  16 Dec 2003
...and one last attempt before I retire, again considering RWCS imagery:
    4 of Swords?

Lady Mary  16 Dec 2003
Congratulations jmd!

It's the 10 of Swords. My thought was: When you get beaten like that and on top of it your teeth are taken away from you then it's definitely a "10-of-Swords"-situation. It's the lowest point - lying on the ground (like Hoke - unconscious and seriously injured) - and from now on things can only get starting better. After all there's the rising sun on the RWS-image!

Your turn, jmd!

jmd  16 Dec 2003
Looks from left to right, and right to left!!!

Owww... thanks Lady Mary! I really wasn't sure there... but thought that if you were using RWCS imagery, it just had to be either of these :)

now to find a quote... and I probably will not be able to check most responses for 24-36 hours...
