this is my personal translation of a part of 'Antigone', written in the 5th century BC by Sophocles:
__________
ANTIGONE
Hasn’t Kreoon honoured one of our brothers with a grave and the other not? They say he has buried Eteokles under the ground with respect for right and law, so that he will be honoured with the dead in the underworld. But to the citizens has been declared not to bury the body of the unfortunate Polyneikes, not to mourn for him, but to leave him there - unwept, unburied, like a delicious prey for vultures, who look at him, waiting to devour him. They say that has been declared by that good old Kreoon for you and me – yes, for me too – and that he’s coming here to make it clear to those who haven’t heard it. [...]
ISMENE
Oh poor sister, you dare so much – but if that’s the situation, what can I further add, whether I untie or tie?
ANTIGONE
See for yourself whether you want to do this and whether you want to work with me.
ISMENE
And take those risks? What do you plan to do?
ANTIGONE
Just see whether you’re prepared to bury him with your own hands.
ISMENE
Do you really want to bury him, even when it’s forbidden by the city?
ANTIGONE
If you don’t want to, I’ll burry him – your brother, my brother. I won’t be considered disloyal.
ISMENE
Stubborn woman, all that while Kreoon is against it?

these are all very good guesses, cards that crossed my mind too, but my card hasn't been guessed yet...
I kinda chose the card I have in mind for its multiple facets--some facets that are not very traditional, but seemed appropriate here, so it isn't very obvious...
think about who's talking there in the dialogue and what the actual reason for this conflict/problem is.
good luck and keep guessing!

nope, not yet, although that were good guesses again... hmm, I hope I didn't make this too difficult, but my reasons for choosing the card are pretty good...
Hint: I was inspired in my choice by an essay I had read by Erich Fromm, and remember: some facets of the card I chose are not very traditional
good luck, you're getting close!

hadn't thought about that card yet, Gloria, it could have been it, but it isn't... another hint: it's a Major Arcana

Hanged Man would be very appropiate here, especially with the whole other viewpoint thing... but it's not it
the Lovers is also a very good guess: Antigone stresses throughout the play the love (philos) that ties her to her family (very important!), plus: the choice-theme is also appropriate here... but it's not it, although it's leading there!
even just the image of Judgement would be cool for this part, considering that the people on this cards are coming out of their coffins and Polyneikes can't be buried... but it's not it!
did anyone look op "erich fromm" and "antigone"? there's an important clue there! also: keep in mind that so far Gloria, Jmd and Minderwiz have been very close!
I'm sorry that I made this a bit difficult , next time (if there'll be a next time) I'll make it easier :)!
come on, people, you're almost there!

The Wheel of Fortune?
Fortuna was Antigone's sister......or am I way off beam?

Siwan, that was a good guess, but it isn't it!
Mystic Zyl, that would have been a good guess if I hadn't said that it was a Major Arcana ;)!
Gloria, is Fortuna Antigone's sister? The only sister I know of is Ismene, who also appears in the extract. It could have been the Wheel of Fortune, but it isn't.
I'll write down all the hints again:
- I chose the card for its multiple facets--some that are not very traditional...
- who is talking here in the dialogue? what are they? who is the reason of their problem
(the problem: Polyneikes can't be buried)?
- I was inspired by an essay I read by Erich Fromm, go look op
["erich fromm" +"antigone"] and just look at a few of the titles of the pages
- it is a Major Arcana
- love
(philos) is very important here, yet it is not a romantic love, it is the love for family
- Gloria, Jmd and Minderwiz have been very close with a few of their guesses

The Empress?

YES!
it was the Empress!
Antigone and Ismene are both women and are talking about Kreoon, the Emperor! Both Ismene and Antigone symbolise the matriarchal principal; Antigone is a strong, determined woman, but Ismene has submitted to Kreoon's authority. I also first thought of Antigone as the Queen of Swords, but Antigone is so much more complex. In those regards, the Empress seemed very appropriate.
Plus, Antigone cares so much about both of her brothers. She does everything for Polyneikes, even when she's scared of dying. She constantly stresses that bond, that tie, throughout the play. I also think of the Empress as very loving, doing everything for those she cares about.
Especially the Marseille Impératrice reminded me of Antigone; that Empress looks so powerful, yet at the same time loving. And, she's looking obliquely at the Emperor, Kreoon. Those two figures, who both are so determined, confront each other in the tragedy.
Congratulations, Gloria! Your determination payed off!
Warm regards,
Spoonbender

Thanks for that Spoonbender.......she was on my mind before The Wheel, only wish I'd gone for it then.
I have to say Antigone has made interesting reading, thanks for that too.
