From "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran
And the weaver said, Speak to us of Clothes.
And he answered:
Your clothes conceal much of your beauty, yet they hide not the unbeautiful.
And though you seek in Garments the freedom of privacy you may find in them a harness and a chain.
Would that you could meet thesun and the wind with more of your skin and less of your raiment,
For the breath of life is in the sunlight and the hand of life is in the wind.
Some of you say, "It is the north wind who has woven the clothes we wear."
And I say, Ay, it was the north wind,
But shame was his loom, and the softening of sinews was his thread.
And when his work was done he laughed in the forest.
Forget not that modesty is for a shield against the eye of the unclean.
And when the unclean shall be no more, what were modesty but a fouling and fettering of the mind?
And forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the wind longs to play with your hair.

I feel this is something to do with being bound to material conditions....so am opting for The Devil.

How about the Hermit?
He has opted out of the life attached to materialism and appearance, wearing simple clothes to keep out the north wind as he walks the mountains - the wind did weave his attire. He doesn't cover himself in finery, knowing that it stifles inner beauty.

Sorry, none of the above.
Though I did like your line of thought, Dark Angel. Hermit is now a runner-up for the quote. But still not the one on the top of my list.

My guess is the Tower. Clothing is a false pretense that hides us and binds us in image, never looking to see what is within. Its destruction leaves us naked and free.

How about the 4 of pentacles.... ? Holding on to material posessions and in turn concealing the persons beauty and uncovering their less flattering qualities....... ??

Still nope, folks!!!
jmd, while I do feel I COULD illustrate a card's image beautifully by using it twice ina row, I like to give the other players some variety. Besdie, I think some people would not guess the particular answer, thinking I had used that card recently, even if they feel the quote fits the card dead on.

Neither the Moon nor the High Priestess.
jmd, Sorry I forgot to mention, I am going from the RWCS. But for the the Marseilles, I would agree that the High Priestess could be seen as having a loom at her feet.

I am sure it must be the 5 of pentacles....
Not everyone needs the material posessions that makes others happy, clothing can be more of a burden and covers up ones beauty.
There is a sense of advising that nature and the natural state of ones body are complimentary to each other and so there is no need to wish for material goods. One can be happy in ones natural state, therefor wish not for money or fancy clothes, but appreciate what you have got.... your life and nature.

It has to be the Wheel of fortune....
The wheel spins and weaves, life can change, but the hub of the wheel remains fixed. No matter what material goods one posesses, ones fortune cannot be expressed in monetry or material posessions.
I know I have guessed it Matt, just give me the O.K.

Congratulations Gloroa!!!!
Yes, it is the Queen of Discs, or rather Queen of Pentacles since I was using RWCS.
The quote is often refering to the beauty of nature, which we see in this card with all the lush scenery (as opposed to, say, the Hermit).
However, the queen is dressed so that all but her face and hands are covered. She seemed rather melancholy at that (as opposed to The Sun where the child is enjoying the bounty of life, or the king who though sitting seems pretty happy).
The Queen of Pentacles has the abundance her around her, yet doesn't seem to be enjoying it. Since the quote is of a prophet giving out wisdom he has acquired, I saw passage as an encouragement to the queen to enjoy the bounties of her kingdom.
Over to you, Gloria!!!!!!
