What Card Am I? (Lit. clue) 22nd. January- Solved

Go without a coat when it's cold; find out what cold is.
Go hungry; keep your existence lean.
Wear away the fat, get down to the lean tissue and see what it's all about.
The only time you define your character is when you go without. In times of hardship, you find out what you're made of and what you're capable of.
If you're never tested, you'll never define your character.

What card am I?

I have to say I'm glad you haven't guessed it yet. :)
BUT..... I don't want it to get that far where a 'list' has to be made. :(
I have a feeling it won't....it's a pretty easy one. :)

Death?

Jewel-ry  22 Jan 2004
Judgement
J :)

MattDouglas  22 Jan 2004
The Magician!

He would be able to get by with less stuff, since he has the power to create and improvise.

Diana  22 Jan 2004
10 of Swords?

Dark_angel  22 Jan 2004
Queen of Swords?

jmd  22 Jan 2004
first list (})) of all currently suggested cards:

Magician;
Hermit;
Death;
Judgement;
Fool;

5 Coins;

10 Swords;
Queen of Swords...

and for my next suggestion, how about, given simply the imagery,
    XVII the Star ?

Strength....?

There is a definite need to draw on reserves in this passage I feel.

Kissa  23 Jan 2004
Seven of Wands?

just add it to your list, jmd ;)

Kissa

edited to ask: Gloria, what book does the extract come from? It looks interesting! Thanks in advance!

How could you JM!! :(

All good answers...I think the couple in 5/Discs have maybe already taken on what the passage suggests. After all, they could be seen as walking away from offer of help.
Also Strength is another I thought would fit, but sadly, still not the right answer.

Kissa.....Henry Rollison wrote the words, but I have no idea where the passage comes from. Thanks for reminding me. :)

jmd  23 Jan 2004
...apologies, gloria, but I couldn't resist :D

how about eight cups?

gloria  23 Jan 2004
The Eight of Cups you say JM?.........sorry but you seem to be going off in the wrong direction. })

Seven of Pentacles - waiting for the harvest, patience, endurance, living on the edge of survival and starvation . . . ???

Sorry Kim.....the card I have in mind is more to do with spiritual awareness. Or should I say...the search for it?

The Hanged Man?
J :)

gloria  23 Jan 2004
JEWEL- RY YES!!! THE HANGED MAN IT IS!!!

There are those that feel the image of the Hanged man is that of the shamanic god Odin. He, allegedly, put himself through a gruesome ordeal. Not only did he wound himself in the side with a spear, but then hung from the World-Tree Yggdrasil for nine days and nights without food or water. This was in order for him to understand the secrets of the Runes.
This is about working towards spiritual enlightenment.
There are things we need to see and experience in a different way before we are able to understand what it is we are about. You know, how we ‘fit in’ and ‘operate’ in the great cosmos!

Over to you Jewel-ry!

Jewel-ry  23 Jan 2004
Oh wow Gloria! I dont think I've ever managed to win one of these before. Give me a little time and I shall return!!

J :)

The Jewel's in your crown!

Well done :)
