Okay, this may not be obscure enough, and maybe I'm not feeling to creative right now. But I think this quote will work great for this game, I just hope it's not too easy not too hard.

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for their's is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they which do hunger and thrist after righteousness: for they shall be filled."
---Matthew 5:3-6

ncefafn  20 Feb 2004
Well, I'm going to go with the obvious, just to get it out of the way: The Heirophant?

Kim

skytwig  20 Feb 2004
Judgement.

MattDouglas  20 Feb 2004
Nope. Neither one of those.

ncefafn  21 Feb 2004
How about King of Cups?

Kim

gloria  21 Feb 2004
Sounds like it could be 5/Discs.

MattDouglas  21 Feb 2004
ncefafn, I like your thinking on the king of cups, the wounded healer, but it wasn't the card i had in mind.

gloria, i guess you're thinking that those hurt and poor people outside fit the description of thoses in the beattiudes, and if so that's an interesting chain of thought, but I did pick that one either.

jmd  21 Feb 2004
the Fool :)

gloria  21 Feb 2004
How about the Sun?...a liberation of sorts.

CreativeFire  21 Feb 2004
How about the Five of Cups ...

looking at the negative, but also being able to see the positive that could be there

CreativeFire

ncefafn  21 Feb 2004
Six of Pents! He's delivering charity, food for the soul.

Kim

Mystic Zyl  21 Feb 2004
Justice

Aerten  21 Feb 2004
The six of swords?

:T6S :)

MattDouglas  21 Feb 2004
Sorry, no one has it yet.

jmd  21 Feb 2004
Suggested cards so far:
    Hierophant/Pope
    Justice
    Sun
    Judgement
    Fool

    5 Cups
    King Cups

    5 Disks
    6 Disks

    6 Swords
How about

the World ?

ncefafn  21 Feb 2004
I'm going to stick with Cups until I run through all of them or someone else guesses correctly. So here goes:

10 of Cups?

Kim

Lady Mary  22 Feb 2004
The Magician - Number 1 - his one hand points to the heaven, the other one to the earth, bringing the divine to the earth.

gloria  22 Feb 2004
The World.

MattDouglas  22 Feb 2004
Sorry, yall still aint got it.

ncefafn, I'll will give a small hint and say it's not a cup. However, I won't give more hints like this about another suit or the major just because you or someone else says they are sticking there until it's exhausted or another guesses it.

jmd  22 Feb 2004
the Hanged Man ?

jmd  22 Feb 2004
Suggested cards so far:
    Magician
    Hierophant/Pope
    Justice
    Hanged Man
    Sun
    Judgement
    World (twice)
    Fool

    NOT CUPS :)

    5 Disks
    6 Disks

    6 Swords

gloria  22 Feb 2004
Sorry JMD...didn't see you'd already put The World forward.

ncefafn  22 Feb 2004
I thought about giving up, but before I do, I'm going to make one wild, last-ditch, counter-intuitive guess.

The Devil.

Kim

Lady Mary  22 Feb 2004
Empress - everything's there in abundance.

gloria  22 Feb 2004
How about The Hermit?

MattDouglas  22 Feb 2004
We have a winner!!!!!!!!!!

jmd

Yes, it's the Hanged Man!

The Hanged Man is a card I have always seen as about letting go and accepting. Starting after it with Death through the Moon is the underworld journey, and then the redemption in The Sun, Judgment, and The World. I see Christ as saying in these sayings that blessed are those who admit their weaknesses and dissatisfaction and own it, for only by doing that can one go through what is necessary for healing. Kinda like how people in order to join AA have to admit "I'm an alcoholic." I see the hanged man as that initial acceptance and admission, which makes one very blessed for it allows them to continue on the journey.

tmgrl2  22 Feb 2004
Good clue...I understand the AA allusion! like that! I first thought with JMD, The Fool...beginning the journey with these characteristics one needs to learn..but didn't think of the Hanged Man...like that...it really is about "letting go" ..maybe even of some of our "fortunes" ..since often there is a monetary piece of loss before we move on to new ventures, or complete one, or continue the journey...fun

jmd  22 Feb 2004
Thanks Matt...

now to find another quote!

And by the way, gloria, I omitted the ':D' in the brackets next to the 'twice' - I have done that a number of times, and it was good (in goo humour, that is!) to see someone else do it ;)
