From "Thoughts about the Person from Porlock"
by Stevie Smith:

I long for the Person from Porlock
To bring my thoughts to an end,
I am becoming impatient to see him
I think of him as a friend,

Often I look out the window
Often I run to the gate
I think, He will come this evening,
I think it is rather late.

I am hungry to be interrupted
Forever and ever amen
O Person from Porlock come quickly
And bring my thoughts to an end.

Judgement?

Bluemanticore  19 Feb 2004
Death, perhaps?

Bean Feasa  19 Feb 2004
The Devil - (in the sense of being trapped, longing for escape??)

Chronata  19 Feb 2004
hmmm...makes me think perhaps...The Devil as well...
Bean beat me to it!

Bean Feasa  19 Feb 2004
Don't know if it's legal to guess twice, but the Nine of Swords comes to mind as well - tortured by own thoughts
????

Bean Feasa  19 Feb 2004
Hi Chronata - great minds think alike ;)

Mystic Zyl  19 Feb 2004
Looks like he wants to speak to he High Priestess

Aerten  19 Feb 2004
The two of swords perhaps?

Agathe  19 Feb 2004
Hello everyone,
I'd say 7 of cups!

Agathe

ncefafn  19 Feb 2004
Hello, all! None of the above. Agathe, I had considered the 7 of Cups for this quote, but ultimately it was not quite the right fit.

9 of Swords....the thoughts that run like a squirrel in a cage when one is trying to fall asleep....???

ncefafn  19 Feb 2004
Nope, not the 9 of Swords, though that's interesting reasoning. I hadn't thought of that -- good.

But still wrong.

Hm......The Fool longing for his journey to end, tired of having to deal with all the trumps and their obligations so he can once again be whole and united in the World??

alsie  19 Feb 2004
Can I have 2 guesses? I'm not sure. Well tell me for next time if I'm not meant to :) Firstly I thought it could be the 8 of swords as the person is obviously desperate for this character to come and save them from boredom and waiting.

But then I thought actually it could be the 6 of pentacles because it's almost like the person in the poem is begging and needing help from the porlock character.

Sorry, not yet, although Alsie's on the right track. (Yep, you can only guess one at a time, but it's okay since neither of your choices was it.)

Going by image how about Rider Waite 2/Wands?

MattDouglas  20 Feb 2004
I think ya beat me to it gloria, but in case you're wrong, I'll also go by art with the....

4 of cups.

gloria  20 Feb 2004
Matt...would you believe I was gonna go for 4/Cups?

Lady Mary  20 Feb 2004
My 1st choice too - the 4 of Cups. But since it's taken, I'll try the 4 of Pents. This little guy also seems to be in desperate need of some distraction.

ncefafn  20 Feb 2004
We have a winner! MattDouglas got it with the 4 of Cups. For me, the character in this card is the image of the stagnated artist who is disgusted with his work and sits in idle boredom, refusing to see the cup of creativity held out to him. He longs for some person from Porlock to interrupt his working hours (though not his work, since he's steadfastly refusing to write) by paying a social call and talking about inanities for hours on end.

Over to you Matt!

Hi Kim...just thought I posted, but hit wrong button...great riddle...went back to Thirteen's notes on Four of Cups...and says
"Q , depressed and restless begins to wonder if the grass might not be greener elsewhere." and.....
"daydreaming of others (relationships) or overindulging is not the way to solve the problem. Stop looking for ways to escape it, and look instead, for ways to change it."
Like the idea of Four of Cups having the "creativity" or "spiritual/emotional" way being held out to us in form of cup in cloud, but Q not paying attention, just looking to escape or too depressed to move....this was fun!

Hi, Tmgrl, glad you enjoyed the game. By the way, who or what is Thirteen, and where can we find these notes? I'm intrigued . . .

Kim

Thirteen is AT member and I believe runs one of the forums...go to Tarot Basics on AT's Home Page...and there is a link there to take you to Thirteen's notes on all 78 cards. Excellent information. Thanks, Thirteen!

Thanks, Tmgrl2!
