Because the neurons on my brain seem to fire in weird directions, I was wondering if there would be any interest in this for an ongoing game - Tarot Deck Idol.
Each week, we pick a card, in order. People nominate their favorites of that card in a particular deck. A panel of judges picks the ones they feel are the best and by the end of the contest (admittingly at least 78 weeks away) we get "THE PERFECT TAROT DECK".
In other words, we start with The Fool. After nominations we whittle down maybe the best 4 Fools until we reach the best. When we are done, we will have ourselves a Tarot Deck filled with the best 78 cards out there.
Just a thought for some fun times. Sound good or does this take Reality TV to a new low?

Yikes, I foresee bloodshed and flames--and don't even need a spread.
Ma-aybe we could try limiting the apocalypse by choosing the most-voted-for (I would never say best) RWS deck, whose images vary the most, but you're a brave man to stride to center ring. Wear your armor! We're usually civil but fiercely loyal to our decks.

Nah -
It was just an idea that I thought of yesterday. Our local Tarot Circle is choosing a card per gathering and comparing the different images on the decks. As it turned out, the card we chose (Hanged Man) turned up about 15 variations on our table and all were in the RWS mold. It was just fun to see the different styles conveying the same message. The most radically different was the Buckland Romani which had an image of a rabbit hanging from a rope (curiously, his paws seemed crossed much like the crossing of the legs on the Man). I know that some cards in some decks repulse me while others of the same really appeal to me. Example - in the standard RWS, I really dislike the 4 of Pentacles and the 9 of Cups. In other decks, I find images of these cards that are more appealing.
I'm going to let this little exercise die a quick death :)
However, comparative analysis of different RWS clones may be something to explore at some time.

In my own collection I like to lay out the (RWS) same card from each deck and ponder the variations. Some seem totally opposite in message. Sometimes when I pick a deck for a reading, I go by the "alternate" deck instead of the familiar one, knowing I'll get a different slant on the response.
When it's a question of personal crisis, I pick the familiar deck, hoping for the best news possible.
