mercenary30's story inspired me to create my own, so here goes...

(no title yet, as it's a work in progress)...

Chapter One, Part One

Choking liquid filled her lungs, she fought against the unseen hands pulling her down into the depths. She managed to force one pale hand above the surface, and felt branches score her skin; she caught hold of one, and hauled herself out of the swirling waters, to collapse on the raw earth.

Something moved; she felt it rather than heard it. Her eyes shot open just in time to see a shadow disappear into the gloom of the forest. The predator within awoke, and she crouched in the darkness as she scanned the shadows. A branch snapped and she crept in the direction of the noise.

Silently, she moved through the trees, and the shadow led her onwards, ever on the very edge of her vision.

As she slipped through a web of bloody thorns, her prey was forgotten. Before her lay a site of carnage - blood stained the ground, the trees; even the air was filled with it. One skeleton lay scattered across the clearing; it could not have been the source of all the blood. Six swords stood in the earth. A shiver ran down her spine as she looked into the trees ahead. The shadows were twisting, and it was not the wind. She reached for the nearest swords, raising it as the shadows moved into the open.

To be continued,

What happens next?

mercenary30  21 Feb 2004
More Please. I want to read your vision on how the rest of the cards speak their story.......

She had been here before, fought them to the death for someone, something... the memory danced away from her, but the shadows remained. Hideous skeletons reached out for her, and her blade sang as it sliced through shining bone. Yet as they fell, they turned to air, pulled back to coalesce, until just one figure stood before her, shrouded in darkness and death.
"Your death means nothing. You still belong."
Its voice was as cold as the hand that struck her, as cruel as the talons that scored her face. But crueller, though she knew not why, were the words it whispered as it faded back into the night:
"You both belong."
A wolf howled in the darkness.

Shaking, she retreated to the trees, her feral mind spinning with desperate questions. She heard no one behind her, and felt only surprise as a blow came from behind, and the ground rushed up to meet her.

She awoke with a start, and scrabbled for her sword, for any weapon, but there were none to be found. No smell on the air, though as her eyes readjusted to the darkness, she found herself in a stagecoach; there must be horses... but no smell? She stared in horror at the view from her seat; nothing but a black void; even the darkest night could never hide the world so completely. Where was she going?

She reached out of the window, straining to reach the roof to haul herself out, to confront her abducter. A gloved hand shot down to meet her and haul her out, dangling her over the void. As she met his gaze, her blood turned to ice in her veins. A blank, white face confronted her, dead eyes focused upon something far beyond her pitiful body. Her sword lay upon the roof, just out of reach. He picked it up and closed his fist around it, shattering the blade. She could not meet his gaze, for it was another void in which to be lost. Despairing, she slid back into the carriage as he released her.

Where was he taking her?

Well since you asked...;)
I didn't post in this thread because I thought it might ruin the continuity, But I did want to say that I think your writing style is intriguing. It reminds me of the graphic novels I used to read.

Morbid, yet smooth.....

Dark_angel  27 Feb 2004
Thanks! Morbid is right.... parts of this are going to be very interesting indeed...

Dark_angel  02 Mar 2004
The cold air against her face tugged her back into consciousness; how long had she slept? Through half-closed eyes she saw the face of the man who carried her so gently. He was tall, gaunt, with hair as black as the night that enveloped them, and skin as pale as her own.
"You are home, little sister."
He carried her down stone steps, and into swirling mist. In a way, she felt that she was coming home, and every fibre of her being yearned to leave again.

Through the smoke, a solitary light burned, and she was born toward it. Her bearer knelt before the altar, offering her up to the sorderor and his acolytes; their voices were deafening, though they did not speak.
"She... has returned."
" But without knowledge."
"The taint remains."
"Her truth is lost to her."
"She. Will. Learn."
Lightning seared the sky, and her body was wracked with pain. As she slipped into merciful oblivion, a voice whispered to her; a voice she at once knew and yet could not remember:
"Perdita, find me... please..."

DA,

Dark, twisted, and intriguing...

Dark_angel  02 Mar 2004
I aim to please... ;)

mercenary30  02 Mar 2004
That is good stuff. Can I start bringing up the names of the cards I think you are reading about? Your descriptions are so accurate, yet the story has it's own life.

More please...... :)

Dark_angel  03 Mar 2004
Sure merc, I'm pretty sure you'll get them. ;)

Thanks for the compliment; we've got a bit of a mutual admiration society thang going on here, don't you think? :)

mercenary30  03 Mar 2004
That is supposed to be our little secret.

Dark_angel  03 Mar 2004
ah. ok then. ;)

Alissa  03 Mar 2004
(I wonder if they know I can hear them talking?)

(I wonder if Dark Angel is gonna write some more soon?)

(I wonder a lot though....)

mercenary30  05 Mar 2004
Well, the first one was not too hard, being the Six of Swords. I guessed the Fool on the second one and got it wrong, but after you told me it was the Five of Wands, it was obvious so then I felt like the Fool. The third card was fairly easily guessed as the Chariot.

The two most recent cards I believe are the Ten of Pentacles and the Magician.

List so far:

Six of Swords
Five of Wands
Chariot
Ten of Pentacles
Magician

Which is next....?

Dark_angel  08 Mar 2004
Sorry about the delay, guys! I have a piece of courswork I simply HAVE to get finished in the next few days, but after that, a huge chunk is going to be posted, I promise you!
