Here's a quote from 'The Lady of Shalott' by Tennyson:
'There she weaves by night and day
A magic web with colors gay.
She has heard a whisper say,
A curse is on her if she stay
To look down to Camelot.
She knows not what the curse may be,
And so she weaveth steadily,
And little other care hath she,
The Lady of Shalott.'
Good luck! ;)

This reminds me of the picture for the Queen of Shields for Legend: Arthurian Tarot...so...is it the Queen of Disks/Pentacles/Shields?

How odd that you pick a poem that I have only recently (re-)printed... and a wonderful one it is!
With regards to the specific quote, I too would have first chosen the Moon... but as it is taken, how about:
II the Popess/High Priestess ?
(she is at times represented with a spindle)

How about The Wheel of Fortune?

I thought my quote would be easy to find, but after seeing your answers, I'd say that maybe it will be more difficult than I thought. So far, none of you has the right answer, worse, you're all cold. Think again. ;)

I'm sorry, but none of you has it so far. Shake the poem hard and make it talk.

Ok...I'm going to do a "jmd" here (hope that's ok, jmd) and summarize....
So far:
Queent Pents
Moon
High Priestess
6Swords
Wheel of Fortune
Temperance
9 Pents
10 Cupts
Strength
and (KIM, did you mean) The Hanged Man?
I guess....The Empress....

... thanks for the summary, tmgrl2 :)
...here's another attempt:
'There she weaves by night and day weaving by night and day could easily be the Star, Moon or Sun, but also the Wheel A magic web with colors gay. a web... difficult, but could again be the Wheel, though not all its 'colours' are gay She has heard a whisper say,
A curse is on her if she stay
To look down to Camelot. Camelot as Tower, and curse... but who is she who has heard the whisper? lady Fortune herself? She knows not what the curse may be,
And so she weaveth steadily, so what the future may bring, may bring... again the Wheel? And little other care hath she,
The Lady of Shalott.' little other care... then the continuous turning of the wheel???
As the Wheel of Fortune is taken... how about anothor card which has at times been equated with the 'missing' image of Fortuna turning the Wheel... I'll suggest the Justice , though I may have been too locked in my reflections:)

Now that all my first choices have been taken, I'll have to reach out pretty far! Here goes...
The image of movement is really strong for me in : "There she weaves by night and day" and "A curse is on her if she stay". Combined with the impression of her inner strength : "And little other care hath she" ; all makes me think of that Chariot, despite the fact that a male is usually driving. (I think there is an early depiction of a female as charioteer, tho.)
So, I'll say Chariot.

Jmd, you came with interesting things here. By the way, I'm talking about the RWS deck.
In the first verse, you mentionned motion, there's a bit of focus too. In the second verse, gay colors are mentionned. As for the three other verses, you were right about the meaning, but you came up with the wrong cards; there's a curse alright, and a warning ahead. For the last verses, the Lady chooses to ignore the warning 'And little other care hath she,'.
I think I have given enough clues... ;)

4 of swords? (I'm thinking of Anne of Green Gables where she's floating down the river). Either that or the 7 of cups? (Are we allowed 2 guesses?.........)

Lady Mary is the winner! The Fool it is. The Lady of Shalott is a gay person, and she does her stuff, in her little wolrd, just like the Fool is absorbed by the flower. The whisper is the dog warning her about the cliff - the curse. But she ignores the warning, and for those who don't know, the story ends tragically.
Lady Mary, you're NEXT!!!
