I would certainly say that this card, and the quote, lead up to the Three of Wands, but that is not the card I had in mind.

Wow. Tons of guesses....
Hello, Dead Star
Howdy, Aerten
G'day, Dark_angel
S'up, tmgrl2
Namaste, Lionette
Those are all good choices, but not the one I had in mind.
Let me give you a hint.
RWS Clones is what I picture in my head.
I am learning to read by looking at what the picture is telling me, and that is what I did here. (From the tarot school of Alissa and Firemaiden) Un-illustrated pips don't give me a picture in my head. There that eliminated at least 22 cards..hehe.
(Specifically the card I see in my head for this one is from Robin Wood, but RWS works too.)

Hi, Mercenary. I'm doing fine. How 'bout you?
For my next guess, the 4 of Cups; he looks like he's considering something.

Hi merc, How you doing?
Erm... 2 of Wands?
I've been using the Londa deck a bit recently, which is based on the idea of each card being an act in a play, so the Eight of Cups (the "Stage Fright" card) would be my other guess (using acting to mean performing rather than just doing).

Let me explain.
When I see the artwork for this card in both the RWS and Robin Wood versions, (the two illustrations that I have burned in my head at the moment) I don't see a person standing there waiting for something. I see contemplation and analysis. I see someone who is trying to decide how to approach their next steps before they take them.
Cool. Well, Gloria Congrats and have fun finding the next quote!!!

Thanks, Mercenary! I am trying to learn via looking at the cards, too. Each time I do a reading depending on the person and the question, it's amazing how the reading becomes "clearer" by looking at the card, the position and its relationship to other cards. Good one! terri Have been too busy to do the book studying right now...vacation time works for me for that...
