"We finally sold the Chevy when we had another baby,
And you took the job in Tenessee.
You made friends at the farm,
You joined them at the bar,
Most every single day of the week.
I will wash the dishes,
While you go have a beer...

Where is my John Wayne?
Where is my prairie sun?
Where is my happy ending?
Where have all the cowboys gone?

Where is my Marlboro Man?
Where is his shining gun?
Where is my lonely ranger?
Where have all the cowboys gone?"

Where Have All the Cowboys Gone? by Paula Cole.

What card am I?

Queen of Cups? Hopelessly romantic, and easily disappointed when the reality check bounces.

Ruby7  11 Apr 2004
Five of Cups

Disappointment, loneliness

ncefafn  11 Apr 2004
Four of Cups?

jmd  12 Apr 2004
I'll focus on the person being referred to instead, as the Queen as gone... how about the Knight of Cups?

Minderwiz  12 Apr 2004
Eight of Swords - a feeling of restriction, inability to do things, a feeling of being trapped, a fear of exercising own abilities.

gloria  12 Apr 2004
The Moon?......disillusionment?

CreativeFire  12 Apr 2004
My first guess was the 4 of Cups but since that ones is already taken - will try something different.

8 of Cups - going with the speaker / singer's feeling of being left behind, abandonment

7 of Cups!

Kiama  12 Apr 2004
All very interesting guesses, many of which I also associated with this, but not my final choice.

Queen of Cups: Not my choice, but in a way this is about a hopeless romantic.

Five of Cups: Yes, there is disappointment here, but there's also something else...

Four of Cups: this was my second choice: the feeling of boredom and stagnation.

Knight of Cups: another one of my choices, but not the final one! Yes, this person is definitely longing for a Knight of Cups, but there's also something else going on here.

Eight of Swords: certainly restriction here!

The Moon: Another of my choices. Getting disillusioned with the life you have.

8 of Cups: Yet another of my choices! I also imagined the singer wanted to 'get away' from it all. But not the correct answer.

7 of Cups: Lots of dreams... But still not the answer.

Here's a clue: what is the singer doing?

9 of Cups then?
Having a beer, or rather 9 of them:-)

Minderwiz  12 Apr 2004
Queen of Swords - the solitary woman or (bar) widow ?

ncefafn  12 Apr 2004
The singer is washing dishes so . . . 2 of Pentacles???

miss_apples  12 Apr 2004
Im gonna go ahead and guess the 8 of wands...the 8 of wands just seems like a good "unhappy housewife" card to me.

isthmus nekoi  12 Apr 2004
9 of swords? Worrying but not taking any action.

sun_kissed  12 Apr 2004
the empress-
focusing on feelings, and feeling like something is lacking....missing fulfillment..longing for affection..trying to sort out your own feelings and t houghts...inside of yourself, you are trying to tell yourself what you allready know..you are stuck in your ways, and you need change...

6/Cups?....looking back...memories....nostalgia.

mercenary30  12 Apr 2004
How about Ten of Wands?
Holding the whole burden with little recognition or assistance.

miss_apples  12 Apr 2004
can I change my guess? I saw a card where it looks like they are washing dishes, but I already made a guess.

I'll just wait until Kiama comes back and says if any of the current guesses are right :)

Kiama  12 Apr 2004

Yes, it was indeed the 6 of Cups: nostalgia, looking back on the past.

To me, this song (of which I only wrote the last verse and the last two choruses) is being sung by a woman who is living a boring, mundane life, cooking and cleaning up after a husband who is boring and mundane. She is thinking back to when she was a little girl, innocent, and full of daydreams or Knights in Shining Armour and Coyboys, of adventure and excitement and love and romance all mixed into one... But as with most childhood dreams, it wasn't a reality. It's not the real world at all. This woman is longing to go back to a state of innocence, where Cowboys and adventure are still very much real.

I picked this song because at the moment it seems very right for me. It's a sad part about growing up I think...

So, 6 of Cups it is, and the buck passes to Gloria!

Blessings,

Kiama

Minderwiz  12 Apr 2004
Congratulations Gloria - look forward to your next quote - hope it's not as difficult as the last one you set :)

gloria  13 Apr 2004
Thanks Kiama and Minderwiz.
I wondered why my clues were going right over your head Minderwiz.
