Okay here we go! This is my first go at this so please bear with me - hopefully it is not too easy or too hard ...

Was it a huntsman or a player
That made you pay the cost
That now assumes relaxed positions
And prostitutes your loss?
Were you tortured by your own thirst
in those pleasures that you seek
That made you Tom the curious
That makes you James the weak?

And you claim you got something going
Something you call unique
But I've seen your self-pity showing
And the tears rolled down your cheeks.

Soon you know I'll leave you
And I'll never look behind
'Cos I was born for the purpose
That crucifies your mind.
So con, convince your mirror
As you've always done before
Giving substance to shadows
Giving substance ever more

Hi CreativeFire...and congratulations on your win.
The Moon?

mercenary30  16 Apr 2004
Seven of Swords?

ncefafn  16 Apr 2004
I'm going to ignore my first instinct and say the King of Pentacles.

Lady Mary  16 Apr 2004
4 of Pentacles?

Pook  16 Apr 2004
I keep coming back to the Three of Swords.

CreativeFire  16 Apr 2004
First of all sorry it took me so long to get back - had to sleep! On Australian time here ;)

gloria - the Moon was definitely in my top three - but no it is not it.

Mercenary - Seven of Swords - was also one I considered as well - but not THE one.

ncefafn - no not the King of Pentacles - what was your first instinct? - that is probably it as I ended up going back to my first instinct on this one.

Lady Mary - 4 of Pentacles - not this one either - but also thought of this one as well.

MoonDreameR - also no not the 3 of Swords - this does apply more to the 2nd & 3rd verses by themselves, but I am thinking more as an overall and in particular the first verse.

Five of Swords?

CreativeFire  16 Apr 2004
no not the 5 of Swords, Mercenary

I hope my card makes sense to everyone when it comes out

Well, my gut reaction was The Moon, but that's too easy. Nevertheless, to get it out of the way:

The Moon?

How about the Devil?

DOH! Homer Simpson moment. Just realized Gloria already guessed that. Let me try and come up with another guess.

Okay, revised second guess:

King of Cups?

MoonDreameR has it! The Devil.

Well Done :D

This song makes me think of the Devil particularly the first verse:

Were you tortured by your own thirst
in those pleasures that you seek
That made you Tom the curious
That makes you James the weak?

but also where in the last two verses it makes me think that someone is being released from the situation but knowing that the other person is still imprisoned by their own fears and shadows.

Soon you know I'll leave you
And I'll never look behind
'Cos I was born for the purpose
That crucifies your mind.

So con, convince your mirror
As you've always done before
Giving substance to shadows
Giving substance ever more

Over to you MoonDreameR

Being my first go at this - can someone tell me how you change the Thread Topic to "solved" like I have seen other ones?

OH YAAAYYYY!!!

I can't believe I actually got it right! I felt really good about it, because right after I posted, I got out a couple of my favorite books! I'll try and have a new clue up by early tomorrow....gotta tend to the baby 4 tonite though. See all you tarot-aholics in the morning.

Thanks gloria - I wondered how they magically became solved in the topic ;)

I will look forward to MoonDreameR's clue know. I think it is harder trying to find a literature clue than what it is to guess it :D LOL
