This should be an easy one:
ANTIGONE: I won't insist,
no, even if you should have a change of heart,
I'd never welcome you in the labor, not with me.
So, do as you like, whatever suits you best --
I will bury him myself.
And even if I die in the act, that death will be a glory.
I will lie with the one I love and loved by him --
an outrage sacred to the gods! I have longer
to please the dead than please the living here:
in the kingdom down below I'll lie forever.
Do as you like, dishonor the laws
the gods hold in honor.
"Antigone," by Sophocles.
Which card am I?

Hi Kim....I'll try 4/Swords.
Edited to add......visually a la Robin Wood.

All excellent guesses, but you're not there yet. Hedgecub, I would never have thought of the 8 of Cups for this quote, but the symmetry between Antigone's resolve and the visuals on the card are remarkable. Good guess!

I will try then, 9 of Wands ... determination, defiant, courage something along those lines.

CreativeFire, your reasoning is on the right track, but the 9 of Wands is not the card.
Lionette, I don't have any particular deck in mind, so I guess you could say RWS by default. And sorry, not the Queen of Wands.
Nor is it the Hanged Man or the Chariot.
Hmm, I thought someone would've guessed this right off the bat.

Antigone is well prepared to die....could it be Death?

Wow, this is harder than I thought it would be. No, sorry, neither the Heirophant nor the High Priestess. I'll give you a clue: it's not a Major.

Perhaps it is the Queen of cups...?
She is very proud and very loving and very loyal. She feels emotions deeply and is committed to her task and her loved ones...?

It's not the Queen of Cups or Swords, nor the 7 or 10 of Wands. Here's another clue:
CHORUS Still the same tempest of the soul vexes this maiden with
the same fierce gusts.

Knight/Swords?....personality wise.
|
| ncefafn |

YES! Gloria wins!
I chose the Knight of Swords to represent Antigone's defiant, challenging nature, her adherence to an ideal even at the cost of her own life, and her contemptuous attitude for those who did not adhere to the same ideals, like her sister.
Phew! Over to you, Gloria!

Thanks Kim....of course it's all obviously clear now.
You know, Spoonbender introduced me to Antigone by way of a Lit.clue last year sometime, although he chose a different slant on the play.
And btw this is a great way to get to know the court card personalities.
Right....let me see what I can come up with. :(
