Not necessarily a fool: maybe a scientists or empiricist, who has to test out all hypotheses before believing them. After all, how many of us here would simply accept such a statement as truth without first testing it?
So who is really the Fool? ;) (Only kidding, I'm not really calling anyone a fool.)
Now, let's try and get thic back to Tarot... Does the Fool believe such things blindly, or is he more the type to throw himself in and test what he is told, even if that may have undesirable consequences?
Whaddya think?

The Fool is not a Fool because

So, if the Fool decides to take that path, he/she's really becoming the High Priest/ess?

The Fool wouldn't realise he is in hell...

I don't think the Fool would care if he was in hell, as long as it was interesting.

What other tarot characters do you think the Fool would meet there (other than the Devil, of course)?
(I figured it would be appropriate to make my 666th post in this thread! }) )

LOL....very appropriate!!!
Hmmm....does anyone else think that the Fool creates his own adventures??? Maybe making it up as he goes along.....
I don't think he is afraid of hell....I think he wants to figure out what is waiting on the other side....

Indeed, fire is a major factor in the survival of civilization. Eternal fire is a major boost to humankind.

hello, everyone! sorry about taking so long to reply! what this is about.... when someone warns you not to do something, yet you do it anyway, then you are a fool reversed. you know, yet you dont care. thus, the law cannot protect you. sort of like getting drunk and commiting murder. you are still accountable, because you know murder is wrong, yet you still do it. this is one of the reasons why waite wrote "intoxication and ignorance" as some of the divinitory meanings of the fool reversed.
upright, you dont know. that is one reason why fool trumps magician, the state of knowledge, acting within ones will for ones own end. other meanings for the fool are apathy, carelessness.
apathy is basically the fool reversed.
to some readers, the fool can be attributed to sexual problems. one reason for this, is nullity; feeling nothing in the face of stimulas that would otherwise arouse a hetero sexual, or provoke an emotional reaction. seeing a child get hit by a car, and not feeling any thing is the fool reversed. just as committing a horrible crime, and feeling no remorse would be fool reversed.
the next natural card in the cycle is the magician reversed, which would be the culmination or result.
upright, as i have said elsewhere, the fool is unknowing, faithfull.
in my spiral deck, an angel is guiding the shoulders of the fool, who is mesmerized by what he witnesses. normal people, who have no occult interference. are the upright fool. they are completely unprepared for the unexpected. so, you could be walking in the clutches of death, a moving car, a cliff...
you are going completely on what you know(the fools sack) with only your emotions and intuition to warn you(the dog)
ya see? i know you all probably heard it before, i just wanted to express what i feel, and think about it. thanks aeclectic.

um...maybe the fool knows hell is over the brink of the cliff, on the path he took paved with good intentions, he even packed for the trip, and maybe the dog is one of god's "let me save you child" speakers for some new church, and he is trying to ignore him, because he headed for warmer weather!:D

i could, he he!
since doing this thread i have revised what i know of the fool i now beleive that the fool is both the occult and normal person.
the major difference arises where the fool is used to designate that the spread is part of destiny.
fate is what we make it. thats true, but only to the fated. seperate from the fated, are those who know. you can predict the fate of someone provided that you do not further interfere with them, and have no further contact. in other words, to someone observing someone else, to the observer, the fate for another is set. but to the fated person being observed, fate is being made. just like how you could see that person tripping on the rock ahead of him, but he could not, so he plunged.
