Here the next lyric. You've probably never heard it, and I only habe because I have a freind who does live covers of it. But it's a great song.
"Dinosaurs" by Dakota Sid
When I sit in contemplation of our human situation
I always feel a certain sense of pride
Our achievements are so many and so mighty
Ahh the evidence could never be denied
But my reverie is shaken, my thoughts are always taken
By that tragedy that happened long ago
When there roamed through the land beings awesome and grand
The fabulous dinosaurs
Oh they were creatures in a manner quite reptilian
In their unique and stylish way
At one time their numbers could be reckoned in the millions
But there are zero of these heroes
In the modern world today
Oh they had music, art, and fashion
There was dinosauric passion
I bet they'd be enraged and mortified
When they're mentioned today and it's only to say
Their brains were small and they died
Now perhaps some asteroid that mother earth could not avoid
Was the reason for their premature demise
I've heard such things can really happen
And who are we to criticize
When we'll spend most any price to have the ultimate device
That ensures the perfect global suicide
I would venture instead that the humanoid head
Is where the tinier brains reside
And when we're gone our works will start to crumble
Til nothin can be found
Ten million years fron now some guy will stumble
On our fossil and some expert will begin to expound
In a labratory study to his cockroach science buddies
How the evidence could never be denied
They were big, dumb, and slow
They couldn't go with the flow
Their brains were small and they died

Wild guess.... TOWER !!!!! :)
|
| MattDouglas |
07 Jul 2004 |
|
Not the Tower either, Dark Eyes.
It seems people are taking their guesses based on viewing the song as about the extinction of the dinosaurs. I was thinking more of the view of how we envision the dinosaurs nowadays.

Welcome to the gaming, littlehermit!
Sorry but it isn't the six of cups.
Merc, it's not the Fool either.

6 of Wands? A card of victory but also a warning against arrogance..............

The Chariot, for arrogance?

|
Still a no go.
Luminessence, you're perhaps on the right track. I'm not looking just at the arrogance, but more specifically how that arrogance and other misconceptions about the viewpoint of humans towards dinosaurs in the song (and evolved cockroaches toward humans) ends up being limiting and disappointing.

hmm. is four of pentacles on the right track then?

What about the emperor...? he is so rigid and structured, he doesn't always think outside the square...? ;)
|
| Dakota |

|
Okay, it's not:
The Fool
The Heirophant
The Chariot
Wheel of Fortune
Death
The Tower
Judgement
The World
6 of Cups
6 of Wands
Other guesses we don't have a response to yet:
The Emperor
4 of Pentacles
I will venture "The 2 of Swords" for refusal to see the true situation
:D

The Devil, for needing to confront the fact that we are arrogant and little-brained and could go the same way as the dinosaurs?
|
| MattDouglas |
10 Jul 2004 |
|
littlehermit, nope, not the Devil.
I'm looking not for what could happen, but how we are already limiting ourselves by looking at the dinosaurs strictly materially, and how future people's could limit themselves in how they look at us today.

heh, QED i'm one of those people who bangs her head on something until she gets it.
sounds like it's got to be pentacles, but I'm still getting stuck at the 4... hmm...
10 of pentacles?

The Empress
|
| MattDouglas |
11 Jul 2004 |
|
Not the Empress!
Not the 10 of Pentacles or the 4! Again I'm looking for a short-sighted attitude. The one conveyed by the song isn't perserverance to get over frustration because one just isn't seeing, but rather the just not seeing causing self-pity and with that the inability to fully appreciate anyone or anything else.
The conclusion can be reached using both using both RWCS imagery or Thoth titles.
Cards guessed so far:
Fool
Empress
Emperor
Hierophant
Chariot
Wheel of Fortune
Death
Devil
Tower
Judgment
World
6 of Wands
4 and 6 of Cups.
2 and Knight of Swords.
4 and 10 of Pentacles.
|
| Satori |
11 Jul 2004 |
|
7 of cups
|
| MattDouglas |
12 Jul 2004 |
|
Not the 7 of Cups.
While the 7 of Cups may represent the overuse of the imagination, what I'm looking for represents the underuse of it, and the limitations of a strictly material viewpoint.

I know this is a very long shot,
MattDouglas, you have got us stumped with this one !
I am going to guess the 5 of Pents.
..... My reason for this is........
sometimes this card can represent not appreciating what was, is, or what one once had. It may be necessary to force ourselves to change our way of thinking when this card appears and hence our lives can change through acceptance and realisation of what is really important to us. We suddenly realise we are lucky to have what we have, or that which we once had.....
........................... D.
|
| MattDouglas |
12 Jul 2004 |
|
Sorry, Dark Eyes, not it!
You are pretty close to what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a card with similar meaning, but focuses more on what one really had done and gained as opposed to the 5 of pents which focuses on what one has.

O.K. MattDouglas,

Still aint got it!
Y'all are really diggin' for this one. Unlike the people and roaches in the song, try imagining more than just what you've found digging in the dirt. Besides, not having found it yet doesn't have to be looked at as unsuccessful.

The Hermit.

| MattDouglas |
13 Jul 2004 |
|
Sorry, not the 9 of Pentacles or the Hermit.
Elf, I'm not gloating; what you thought was gloating, was my giving a clue. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

13 Jul 2004 |
|
ok, less digging...
Five of Cups?
|
| Luminessence |
13 Jul 2004 |
|
5 of Swords? I often see this card as an indication of taking the wrong path and looking in the wrong places, so it could indicate being limited by looking at the wrong aspects of the situation. (And I suppose even if this isn't the answer to the clue, it certainly describes our search for the answer... :))

7 of Pentacles, for limitation and being stuck?
|
| MattDouglas |
15 Jul 2004 |
|
HOOOOOOOOOOOOORAY!
Luminessence has it!
I chose the 7 of pentacles, because it shows someone looking as if he's worn himslef out for nothing, when in fact the tree is growing pentacles. Also, in the Thoth this card is called "failure." It's not about literal failure, so much as how failure is the result of our perception by not seeing anything beyond the specific result we were looking for. Also, the card correspond with Saturn in Taurus; Saturn (limitation) with Taurus (material possession). The song is about how we judge the dinosaurs by strictly the material measurements we make from their bones, and how in the future cockroaches may treat us the same way.
Over to you, Luminessence!
