Answering a tarot question with a tarot question

Like a phoenix from the ashes....

The original thread having been locked :TDEAT -- the question at hand is: can we play this game, still have fun with it, and keep the topic strictly to tarot?

Moonbow*  02 Jul 2004
Shall we go through the cards and ask a question about each one?

laura_borealis  02 Jul 2004
That is a good way to start -- though my preference is for something rather free-form, how about you?

Would you like to start? What card would you like to ask a question about?

Moonbow*  02 Jul 2004
Since it is a full moon tonight, I would like to ask - what is your favourite meaning for the Moon card?

TemperanceAngel  02 Jul 2004
I love the fact that luna is moon and then there are lunatics, which the full moon often creates }) Can anyone think of some more?

laura_borealis  02 Jul 2004
Coyotes are small wolves, and howl at the moon -- does anyone else interpret the wolf on the moon card as Coyote, with all his Trickster attributes? Doesn't that give a different slant on the Moon?

mercenary30  02 Jul 2004
Did you know I like the idea of a guide in the dark night bringing hope and shedding some light on the unknown?

lunakasha  02 Jul 2004
Do you know I love the idea of the mystery of the Moon....light emerging from the shadows???

Dakota  02 Jul 2004
Yes, mystery and allure, something exotic and shadowy............

I love the Moon card and it is the one I measure a new deck by; if I don't warm to the Moon card, the deck is not for me.

Do you know I feel exactly the same way about the Moon card??? :P

mercenary30  02 Jul 2004
I think the moon card is an important one for everyone, don't you?

lunakasha  02 Jul 2004
Do you know that I just pulled the Moon card for my daily card tomorrow??? :D

Did you know that the Moon card in the Osho Zen deck is known as "Past Lives"???

Dakota  02 Jul 2004
Did you know that the Moon in the Feng Shui tarot shows a figure crossing water toward distant mountains (a bit 6 of Swords), seen through a rather stargate-like stone arch:

laura_borealis  03 Jul 2004
Oh, I like that Moon -- do you know I've never seen that one before?

I am like Dakota and Merc, in that the Moon can make or break a deck for me; another is the Star -- what other cards are that way for you all?

Moonbow*  03 Jul 2004
The Moon is very special to me too, :) but the High Priestess can make or break a deck for me, the Rohrig one is my favourite - what's yours, and why?

TemperanceAngel  03 Jul 2004
Did you know I had the RWS Moon symbol tattooed on my shoulder?

The HP, a mysterious lady don't you think?

mercenary30  03 Jul 2004
If the death card is hokey, than I don't like the deck already, you know?

lunakasha  03 Jul 2004
Do you know that I love the Death card from the Secret Tarot???

Can you give an example of a "hokey" Death card??? :D

laura_borealis  03 Jul 2004
Do you think the Robin Wood Death card is a little hokey? I just can't take it seriously, you know?

Oh! Did you know I was contemplating the same tattoo?

Moonbow*  03 Jul 2004
My least favourite card is Judgement, I rarely get it in a reading and it just does nothing for me, ever had that feeling with a card?

mercenary30  03 Jul 2004
There are some that just seem to fizzle, but for me that usually depends on it's location and the spread around it, you know?

I used to get that from the Hierophant -- I didn't get anything from him, but sometimes it depends on the deck you know? The Hierophant in the Tarot of Prague has a lot to say to me -- do you think a deck change might solve your Judgement problem?

Dakota  03 Jul 2004
I have trouble relating to Wands in general; not many of them that I am fond of. Anybody else have difficulty with Wands??

Really? How bizarre? Mine is green.

I love the Death card in the Medieval Scapini as it looks as thought it's smiling and the pose is that of Shiva. Has anyone else seen that?

laura_borealis  03 Jul 2004
I think I have seen that -- isn't Death dancing in the Scapini? Doesn't that seem appropriate, the Dance of Death? Have you seen The Seventh Seal?

Moon tattoo -- did you know I have a sun tattooed on one upper arm, and have been planning to get the moon on the opposite side?

laura_borealis  05 Jul 2004
What card shall we ask questions about next? How about Temperance?
What do you think she's really mixing up in those cups?

I'm thinking...is it a margarita??? :P

Do you know I love the Temperance card from the Gilded deck?

What is your favorite Temperance card???

laura_borealis  05 Jul 2004
Mmm, do you know how good a margarita sounds right now?

Do you have a Gilded link handy?

Oddly, the Marseilles Temperance is my favorite, especially when she does that nifty spiraling liquid trick -- have you seen her?

Do you have a favorite Temperance?

Dakota  06 Jul 2004
Here is a Gilded Tarot link:

http://www.ciromarchetti.com/gilded_tarot/major.html

Would that satisfy you?? :D

mercenary30  06 Jul 2004
It is hard to pick favorites, but in many cases you can find my favorite in the Tarot of Prague, would that suprise you?

lunakasha  06 Jul 2004
Do you know that doesn't surprise me merc? ;)

Is there a link to see all the cards in the Prague deck???

:P Luna

laura_borealis  06 Jul 2004
Don't you know your wish is our command?

http://www.tarotofprague.com/home.html

The Gilded Temperance is lovely, but do you think she's mixing margaritas? With her flame colored dress and hair, I'm thinking... tequila sunrise? :)

mercenary30  06 Jul 2004
Wouldn't you know Laura took care of that for me, isn't that nice?

laura_borealis  06 Jul 2004
On the other hand, wouldn't mixing alcoholic drinks be somewhat incongrous with the image of Temperance? Does anyone remember the Women's Christian Temperance Union? They weren't into the idea of moderation, were they? :P

Does this blow my image of Temperance as the original St. Pauli Girl? :D

mercenary30  06 Jul 2004
Are you sure there wasn't any secret recipe in thier lemonaid?

Doesn't she look like she has a really bad case of hat hair?

I wondered what happened to my favorite game...
OK, staying on tarot, and I think you all were talking about Temperance cards last few posts, so...
Am I the only one who has noticed that Temperance is one of the cards that can vary widely from deck to deck while still maintaining the basic RWS symbolism?

I suppose you are right, but have you seen the WorldTree Tarot temperance?

OakDragon  07 Nov 2004
Do you suppose the Temperance figure in that tarot is expecting to catch anything or is out just for the relaxation of it?

Ace  07 Nov 2004
Yes and no, what do you think?

OakDragon  14 Jun 2005
Could it be possible he's doing a bit of both? (being Temperance and all ;))

ros  14 Jun 2005
Would timing be a factor for the Temperance card?

bluedahlia13  15 Jun 2005
wouldn't the timing be considered if it's in the past or present state? Jes wondering, aren't you?
