LaLaLa-Lyric Card Game-jul 2 - Solved

Hi folks, I was just reading the sticky and thought I'd start up a LaLaLyric game. This is an old favorite song of mine, and it kind of sums up the thoughtful life review I've been having...albeit a tad more positive than my sleepless friend here!

So, what card do you think I'm thinking illustrates this song the best?

SLEEP'S DARK AND SILENT GATE
Sometimes I lay awake at night
and wonder
where my life will lead me
waiting to pass under Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate
I found my love
too late
running round day after day
lookin' for the time to play
while my old friends
slipped away
never should have had to try so hard to make a love work out
I guess
I don't know what love has got to do
with happiness
but the times when we were happy
were the times we never tried
lookin' down at the highway
lookin' down the road
waiting for a ride
I don't know where I've been
wishing I could run away
wishing I could hide
Oh God this is some state I'm in
when the only thing that makes me cry
is the kindness in my baby's eye
Sometimes I lay awake at night and wonder
where the years have gone
waiting to pass under
Sleeps dark and silent gate.

I'll start with the...

4 of swords.

The man resting either sleeping or dead. The lyrics refer to death as sleep, it seems.

Satori  02 Jul 2004
Sorry MattD, not it, but that is a good card for the song.

Luminessence  02 Jul 2004
This says 6 of Cups to me...

Inana  02 Jul 2004
9 swords?

MattDouglas  02 Jul 2004
We'll this may be Captain Obvious response, but I'll try...

Death.

lionette  02 Jul 2004
Hi Elf --

how about Judgment??

Satori  02 Jul 2004
Sorry folks.
Okay, think maturation.
Not sure if that helps, but it is pointing out a direction...

Dakota  02 Jul 2004
8 of cups??

Whose song is that? I am sure I know it but just can't rememer...........

Luminessence  02 Jul 2004
3 of Pentacles?

That is too funny Matt, but you know I thought, this is so obvious, everyone will get this...

The answer to me is so obvious that I almost thought it was moot to post it! But what I've learned from playing these games with you all is that what is obvious to me is never that obvious to anyone else!

King of Cups?

MattDouglas  02 Jul 2004
10 of Pentcles.

The card shows a family with the Pentacles arranged like the Tree of Life, symbolic of "growing down."

Dark Eyes  03 Jul 2004
I will try .... 5 of cups... There is an indication of regret in the words of the song. By the way, i have this album, it is great. I love this song so much, good choice elf. You have very good taste.
......regards... D. :)

Satori  03 Jul 2004

Sorry everybody. These wonderful, insightful choices aren't what I was thinking!!!

The song is interesting to me because, while the person speaking sounds regretful, he also feels like he has little control of where he is going. He wonders "...where my life will lead me..."

Now the card I'm thinking about has very big associations with control, and while some of you read reversals, I do not. So, I am illustrating a darker aspect of this card.

Hope that helps.

Not it, sorry Girl.

What is he wondering about really?
I think he wonders about his choices, and what his next choice will bring him....or lead him......

tmgrl2  03 Jul 2004
7 of Pentacles...

Those were my last two ideas...now I'll have to think again...

Not it again, sorry girl.
The song is speaking about one person's introspection, his or her wonderment about states of reality.
He is in a way at a crossroads....

No...and....No.
The song I chose hints at the cost of this kind of journey.
There is a toll to be paid here.....

MattDouglas  03 Jul 2004
Are you referring to the...

10 of swords?
Swords are air, hence mind, hence ego, hence control. 10 of swords is the blood (literary or metaphorically) for such living in one's head.

Not the 10 of swords

The song takes us down memory lane right?

Kahlie  04 Jul 2004
4 of Cups?

He's introspective, and a bit sad...

Sorry, not it...
I'm afraid to give it away with another strong clue.

How about this:
Why does the singer lack the hootzpah to take control and grab the reins?

MattDouglas  04 Jul 2004
From that clue, I'll say...

The Chariot.
Just looking at your clue rather literally.

The Chariot.
Perhaps this is not how many people would define The Chariot, but I think that when we let life steer us and wonder why things don't go the way we want, then we have indeed chosen the outcome, just not totally consciously. Life journeys and events spin around us and we can take responsibility or not.

You read the clue correctly Matt.

Congratulations.

MattDouglas  04 Jul 2004
Interesting take on the Chariot.
Now to think up a new clue.
