Lit Clue July 29th - Solved

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 29 Jul 2004, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Luminessence  29 Jul 2004
Quote:
What if the point of life has nothing to do with the creation of an ever-expanding region of control? What if the point is not to keep at bay all those people, beings, objects, and emotions that we so needlessly fear? What if the point instead is to let go of that control? What if the point of life, the primary reason for existence, is to lie naked with your lover in a shady grove of trees?

- from A Language Older Than Words by Derrick Jensen

I will be the 1st to guess: The Wheel of Fortune.

Satori  29 Jul 2004
Ace of Cups

Eco74  29 Jul 2004
Not keeping at bay..

I'll go with the Tower.

littlehermit  29 Jul 2004
Letting go, being vulnerable/naked...

The Hanged Man?

Luminessence  29 Jul 2004
Nope, none of those - although the Hanged Man was the card I originally thought of for this passage.

OakDragon  29 Jul 2004
Page of Cups?

Satori  29 Jul 2004
Well, the obvious...The Lover/Lovers?
Because for them that is the point of life, right?

jmd  30 Jul 2004
and what of the even more 'obvious' (to me anyway :D):
    XVIIII the SUN ?

Luminessence  30 Jul 2004
Nope, haven't got it yet!

(The Sun really is a good choice for this passage, though, and very close, in interpretation of the passage, to the card I chose.)

blackroseivy  30 Jul 2004
Judgement.

juju  30 Jul 2004
I was going with the Fool...

OakDragon  30 Jul 2004
The World?

blackroseivy  30 Jul 2004
BWHAHAHA - THE DEVIL. })

Luminessence  30 Jul 2004
Nope, still not yet...

Guessed so far:
The Fool
The Lovers
The Wheel of Fortune
The Hanged Man
The Devil
The Tower
The Sun
Judgment
The World

Ace of Cups
Page of Cups

blackroseivy  30 Jul 2004
Eight of cups (again).

Satori  31 Jul 2004

Ace of Cups
Page of Cups

Hmmmmm...

High Priestess?

jmd  31 Jul 2004
XVII Star ?

Eco74  31 Jul 2004
4 Pentacles?

Luminessence  31 Jul 2004
Still haven't got it yet...

jmd  31 Jul 2004
I have absolutely no idea...

how about the quote as advice to the two at his feet:
    V the Pope?

OakDragon  31 Jul 2004
9 of Cups? The guy on the RWS card seems pretty satisfied with having everything.

Satori  31 Jul 2004
Ace of Pentacles

blackroseivy  31 Jul 2004
The 3 of cups. Celebratory.

Luminessence  31 Jul 2004
Nope, none of those... The one I'm thinking of is more about fully embracing the world and being fully a part of its cycles instead of separating yourself from it.

jmd  01 Aug 2004
XIII ?

Anna  01 Aug 2004
9 of pentacles?

blackroseivy  01 Aug 2004
Two of pentacles... (sigh, I know I'm wrong!) :(

Eco74  01 Aug 2004
Strength?

Thinking of the mild control "not keeping things at bay, relax and trust the calm"... Aswell as that restful stance "under a tree" that is apparent in some decks for this card...

Satori  02 Aug 2004
Lumi, thanks for the hints but I don't think I'm in the ballpark...

How about Temperance, because between this thread and LaLaLyric I need her?

blackroseivy  02 Aug 2004
Oh dear, weez all in troublez!!!!!!! ;)

arcanalefait  02 Aug 2004
OK...can it be the Moon? It always makes me think of surrender, in a sense.

I'm a coming for you lady.....oh I'm a comin'......BWaahaahaaaahaa
(Ummm does that sound like a demonic laugh...you know the old horror movie kind of laugh????)

Satori  02 Aug 2004
how about the ...... Death card?
Because if you don't care about Death, you laugh in Death's face and make love?
I'm reaching here Lumi....come on...talk to me....

Luminessence  02 Aug 2004
Still not yet!

The card I picked doesn't focus so much on surrender, as such, but is more about stepping out of the Magician mentality of seeing the world as something to control, and instead simply being a part of it, especially the natural world and the senses.

jmd  03 Aug 2004
VII Chariot - relinquishing control.

Eco74  03 Aug 2004
The fool?

Or has that already been guessed?

Checked, Dang it has...
Out of ideas. *sulks*

Satori  03 Aug 2004
King of Cups
Final answer....

blackroseivy  03 Aug 2004
(sigh) The Empress...

Yep! You got it! The Empress is the card I picked. To me, she represents simply enjoying the world and your place in it instead of trying to separate yourself from it or impose your will on it.

Satori  03 Aug 2004
Good going danubhe. That was a hard one....uh oh. Could this be lala lyric the sequel.....;)

blackroseivy  03 Aug 2004
Exactly what I thought (as to explanation) - oh, hey, I had a great one, should I go ahead & use that one again & this time people can guess? Nah - I'll come up with something better!
