So many of us have sometimes hundreds of decks. We just can't settle on one, or two, or 10.
I have asked the Tarot de Marseille this question:
What is it we searching for when we collect decks?
8 De Coupes
5 De Coupes
Mystery Card
8 De Coupes
8 lovely cups to fill and all around the cups are blooming, twining growing vines. 8 is the number of infinity. The number of Justice and the number of receptivity. So perhaps Tarot tells me that we humans have an infinite amount of Tarot decks to collect! That the number is limitless, the creators of decks infinitely creative and that the material world needs Tarot in many forms to connect the dots between the infinite diversity of peoples. So as we grow and connect to different levels of understanding TArot grows with us.
5 De Coupes
The number of Le Pape.
Our faith and love of spirituality is such that if one deck is good then many decks must be even better. Our minds, human and frail limited in some ways to seeing the Divine in its purest, truest form, needs to see Divinity from many perspectives. We get to link to other people's learning of Tarot by using their decks and so we evolve by piggybacking upon one anothers visions. Coming from a time when people were persecuted for engaging in the kind of spirituality offered by Tarot we revel in the ability to play Tarot and engage in esoteric and exoteric knowledge by overindulging in the purchase of decks.
Mystery Card
The quest for the perfect deck then enters in. Tired of so many choices and offerings we quest like the ancients for the Grail. We ride tirelessly in search of that which will make us whole, and then we hold up for all to see the one true deck that will complete us, only to find that the Grail is elusive, and the path is dark, and not always clearly marked. And so we quest and quest and our pocketbooks become thinner, and the Universe laughs because we carry with us that which we so desperately seek.
What is my mystery card???

Many possibilities. My first guess would be the Knight of Cups.

And your first guess is right Rusty Neon.
Chevalier De Coupes is the last card in the three card sequence I drew for this reading.
He rides along a black trail in the Hadar Marseille deck that I used for my reading.
This Knight holds aloft a lovely cup, and his trusty steed rides along at an even pace as the Knight pursues his quarry. Except for the purposes of this reading, he has what he seeks, just as each of us possess within us what it is we seek, when we continuously search for the perfect Tarot deck.
It seems to me that this reading tells us that the deck is elusive because we are the key ingredient. And recognizing this is part and parcel of learning to read the Tarot, regardless of the tool, deck, twig or blade of grass.
I'm not sure what happens now Rusty Neon. If you wish, perhaps the next round is yours.....
I have proven that I am not a very tricky gamester when it comes to the Mystery Card game.

Wonderful game, elf. I enjoyed it immensely.
I would have thought of the Hermit though...
