There should not be a "scariest card" because there is good and bad in each card. To read the Tarot is to interpret where you are in the natural balance of things. You have nothing to fear from this.
The Tower card bares a striking resemblance to the NYC disaster. This gives the card a remarkable power in my opinion. I feel like like it gives the cards an even more fatalistic feeling. But even as the tarot is not 2 dimensional as some would believe, the Sept. 11 events are multidimensional. There is still no absolute evil (or absolute good). There is a natural tendency for religious and political upheaval in the human race. There is a natural tendency towards conflict and competition for resourses and survival in every species of animal, vegetable and yes even mineral.
The Tower card tells us we are living with false securities and warns how quickly they can disappear. It warns of Karmic forces that can cause a breakdown in relationships and finances. It helps to remind us that nothing is permanent and the world must constantly move on. However, this need not be a negative. From the rubble comes a new awakening and change is not always a bad thing. To be reminded of the natural cylcle of things is to feel a part of the whole. To feel a part of the whole gives a great feeling of security.
All of this can be said of what happened on Sept. 11. and in the weeks since. It has made people re-examine everything from family relationships to how we react to people who are so different to ourselves and yet are part of the whole even while attacking us.

I agree, I cannot even look at a tower card without immediately thinking of the world trade centers..............I hope you are right about everything working out for the best.

Itīs not the card itself I "fear" - itīs the concept it depicts. And of course there is good and bad in every card, but not all of them hit me in my sore spots :-)
I think itīs ok to look for "scary" cards, because you learn more about yourself when you listen for your reactions. I have issues with opening up to other people and trusting - thatīs why I react so strongly to the Star, which is a very positive card to others who donīt have problems with openness.
I second what you wrote about the tower - I just hope that the tarot Tower isnīt reduced to the Sep 11 desaster from now on. That was certainly a powerful manifestation of the Tower archetype; but the Tower can manifest in many other ways, too. I donīt want to see only the Twin Towers everytime I get this card... there is more to it than this single event.
