Hi everyone,
My friend did a reading regarding whether he will ever see a person who he had lost contact with a year ago. The eight of wands came up in the answer position (the other cards were neutral). He's fairly new to the tarot, so he asked me for advice.
Do you think the 8 of wands could stand for a reunion?
thanks,
Lilli

The 8 of Wands is a particularly difficult card to interpret just by itself. To me, it's meaning changes so drastically depending on what other cards appear with it in a spread.
For example, here it could mean a couple of completely different things...
The 8 of Wands could signify the beginning of a search for this lost friend. However, whether the search has been launched thoughtfully or carelessly is hard to tell. If the 8 was reversed, I would suggest it was a well-planned search, otherwise it might just be a sloppy one.
However, the 8 of Wands could also talk about obstacles standing in the way of such a reunion.
Either way, I think this card talks more to the search for this reunion more than it does about the reunion itself.

Hi Lilli,
The eight of wands usually means news: letters or phone calls.
It could be confermed by the page of wands or the judgment.

Agree with Mojo regarding possible meanings for 8-Wands. Its significance depends upon the nature of the query & other cards.
As Paola mentioned, it can refer to some type of communication.

8's are cards of movement, action and initative and none more so than the 8 of Wands. My opinion: this is a very aggressive card with a very aggressive meaning. No wussy "chance meeting likely in the near future," or "it's likely that you'll hear of your friend from another friend," crap. This card says, "YES! There WILL be contact!" but....
And here's the but: your friend must do all the work to make it happen, and he has to now, without hesitation, without reservation. If he really wants to contact this person, then he has to get on the internet and start searching. Make phone calls, write e-mail, be relentless in tracking the person down. When the person is found, initiate contact, say whatever needs to be said to mend or re-establish the friendship, arrange for a meeting, and don't take "No" for an answer. Call up the airlines or fill the car with gas and GO to that person, don't make them come to you. Make sure the meeting happens.
In short, yes, he will see this person again, but only if *he* re-establishes contact himself, aggressively and quickly. He can't procrastinate, can't waste time, and he can't given into fear, hesitation or paranoia. Otherwise, no, it ain't gonna happen.

thanks everyone. I've always found the eight of wands difficult to understand. I'll pass on your interpretations to my friend.

wow Thirteen,
the chariot really came to here *S* I love your interpret of 8 of wands.
In shapeshifter this is about end of stagnation, quick thinking and action. May indicate sudden journeys. (just like T said)
Way of topic here, but I DO love my shapeshifter *SSSS*

I happen to LOVE this card! Thirteen is correct (as always!), this card speaks of action and movement. To me, it's very motivating and says get off your butt and do it now! Three times in the last week this card came up and all three were action days. Phones were ringing and things were happening. I believe this card also portends a possible relationship (somebody correct this if wrong).

For me - the 8 of Wands often speaks of 'too many worries' or too many projects. }>
This in no way negates the idea of it being a card of action - action is clearly called for. Sometimes its just a matter of focusing on the most immediate problem. Definitely agree your friend needs to make all the moves on this one. :-)

Agree with other comments about the importance of context.
Communication - fast, sure, directed - look at the way those Wands course through the air.
Intuitive communication - fast and not tangible. There was an Aeclectic member who used to heal animals intuitively and this card came up in readings for her. I've used this interpretation a number of times with others in the context of lightening quick understanding.
Also -INTERNET or other electronic communication. Technology...great stuff.

Thanks Thirteen...I got the eight of wands when asking "what action should I take" regarding a relationship - in the querant position. I had been waiting for the other person to make the first move but now I understand that it's all on me : )
