Just wondering... when doing a reading (whether for yourself or someone else), do you personally select a card to represent the querent?
The reason I ask is that I have not been selecting a card to represent myself and yet the Queen of Cups comes up in about 80% of my personal readings.
(Bear in mind, I am a newbie; so please pardon me if I'm asking a simple question)

Hi!
A lot of people don't use significators at all, and personally I've not used them in the readings I've made (but they were all online, I might change when I do a face-to-face-reading).
But if I did, I would probably either have the cards pick one, or the querent him/herself. I'm thinking of using two decks, where one is the one I read with, and the other I use to let the querent pick a card that "feels" right, one that he or she relates to. (Would work best with a querent who knows nothing about Tarot, of course.) I'm not sure if this goes as picking a significator, but it would be interesting to see what the querent says about his or her situation based only on what he or she sees in the picture on the card.
But that's my wild and crazy idea, bet that isn't in any books...!:D

unless i feel the spread depends on me telling the cards exactly what i want to look at, i don't choose a significator. and then even when i tried to do so recently, i found my cards got a bit upset at me for not trusting her to choose one herself.
i have a friend who shuffles till a card falls out and then uses that as the significator.
i think it all depends on your intent and the deck's attitude.
it seems to me that your deck is trying to tell you something, though. i know that when i read for a particular friend of mine, the king of discs tends to naturally show up in the first position. that is very much who he is.
just remember to listen to what the cards tell you, and you'll be fine whatever you do :}

in the studies fo the book i had it was supposed to represent the client and hold the energies of the spread.
the idea of a person being defiened by their hair disturbed me to the point i sought another way. and so i randomely now lay down a card first that sets the energy of the spread . it kind of like hints on what to look for in general during the spread.
that is me though :O)
