Advice on deck order please

Hello people,
I just wanted to hear from you about this little matter. I have just performed my first reading, it was for myself and it went well. I used all the cards and a Celtic Cross spread, but I read after interpreting it successfully (I thought) that I should have placed the cards into a particular order before shuffling. I didn't. Is that something I should do necessarily? Thanks for your help people :)

Some nice threads on this very question. If you do put your cards into order before you shuffle, you have to shuffle a lot to get them thoroughly mixed! Try searching the archives for a thread named something like 'ordering your deck'.
The quick answer is, no, you don't have to but you can if it feels right to you.

I frequently sort my deck simply to ensure that all the cards are present and I haven't mislaid one. As Marion says the consequence of this is that I need to give the deck a very good shuffle before I do a reading.
Between 'sorts' I do no other ordering at all.

I personally don't think its necessary to put the cards in a particular order before shuffling. I prefer not to, in fact, but if I've been using a deck for study purposes, typically everything is laid out by Major/Minor/Court/Element/etc and a lot of extra shuffling is required. I've gotten humerous (though useable) results by not shuffling enough.

Thankyou for your opinions. I thought it might be the case as the reading went so well. But I've just given my brother a reading which was mildly confusing. I believe this is the incorrect place though, so I'll post another thread.

Actually when I do readings my deck is ordered, on a general basis.
This only due to the fact that most of times, after reading I re-order it Majors/Wands/Pents/Swords/Cups, to check I have not lost any card, and to annoint it from the reading just preformed.
At times I do not though, especially when I am reading for myself and know that the next reading I will be taking will be for myself too - as if I liked to keep the previous energies stored there, so that they can de united to new ones, and let the story unfold and develope... :)
But, basically, I DON'T order the cards JUST BEFORE I read. If they are ordered, in conclusion, it is because I ordered then when I put them away previously.
