Haindl Tarot - The Tower

I was meditating on the Tower card from my Haindl deck last night, and it struck me how the building depicted looks very much like a cylindrical version of one of the WTC towers in New York City...very ironic, I thought of how the great tragedy that happened there on 9/11/01 violently overturned the way of life here in the states, much like this card indicates will occur in one's life.

Anyone else notice this?

Hm, I have to pull out my Haindl deck this evening to check. Whenever I see the twin towers on the RW cards (Moon and Death), I see the WTC before my inner eye.

I can see that on the Haindl, another interesting thing is that the rune assigned to it kind of looks like an airplane. I need to get the Haindl when I get the chance

I think the Twin Towers would make a great tower card in about 10 years, when the edge of the event has worn off. the symbolism is excelent, and by then hopefully we will be able to see the positive outcome from a tragic event.

Moon and Death having towers in Rider Waite seems very appropriate when you think of them as the twin towers. Death-in both the literal sense an the rtransformation sense and the Moon-things hidden

There's a card in the Karma Tarot -- I think it's the 7of Wands -- where part of the scene is a city skyline with two prominent skyscrapers. The whole theme of the card is a target, with the skyline in the center, and off to the left is a little airplane, not directly pointed at the towers, but it doesn't take much imagination...

And the Haindl Tower is more than a little freaky, too.

As I watched the airplanes impact the WTC on my television, I thought it made a great tower card. In fact, I felt so strongly about it that I remade the tower card in Major Tom's tarot to feature the WTC.

I want to see a scan of that Karma Tarot card, it sounds just too freaky for words.

I looked at the Karma Tarot card again, and it isn't quite as weird as I might have made it sound earlier in this thread. The card doesn't strike me as really targetlike, but the author/artist describes it that way in the book, and after reading that, I can see it. There are several elements to the picture which all have equal weight -- a floating woman and a piano player among them.
I have to try really hard now in order to see anything else on this card besides the two same-size skyscrapers in an abstract target center with a plane nearby.

I wish I had a scanner, but I don't. Aaarrgh!

I do not own the Haindl deck, I don't care for many of the online scans I've seen of it. But I do have a picture of it's Tower card in a book , and I find that card extremely fascinating! Maybe because it has a more "modern" look, or maybe because it is cylyndrical. You can almost feel the sense of swift movement as you fall................. Truthfully, after 9-11, Every Tower card reminds me of it! ( At least most traditional looking tower cards that have a tower being struck by lightening and people falling from it , or throwing themselves from it etc. ) The card just seems Too like 9-11 for it to be a coincidence. Personally, I believe whomever created tarot way back when had a premonition!

The WTC as the Tower has been stuck in my head ever since. I can't look at any Tower card without thinking of it. Especially the people falling on the card vs. the people jumping from the WTC. *shudder*

And in a creepy coincidence -- last September, an e-mail class I took was going through the Majors. One card a day, everyone posted information about the card in the deck they were using and whatever else info they had. The discussion leader had "randomly" drawn the cards in advance, planning out what card we would cover on which day. Sept. 12 was the Tower. She had totally forgotten about it, but after the attacks she planned to change the order of things so we would discuss the Tower on the 12th, but when she looked at the list she'd made before class began.....

That kind of gave all of us the cosmic heebie-jeebies....
