What other uses do you have for your Tarot decks

Other than divination and perhaps spellworking I'm curious to know what other uses you all may have for your decks.

If you're not doing regular readings (besides your daily readings or self readings) does your deck stay in it's tote or box?

Story ideas.

They actuaaly end up in their boxes too much.

i use the decks mainly for studies.

i pick out all the hierophants!
or all the aces and lay them out on the floor in loooong lines that my cats think are really funny to sit on.

i also use them just to sit in the sofa and flip through the cards and go "Ohhh" and "Awwww"
(or in rare cases "ick!")

i do Nina Lees exercises with them too - and will do more once i get her new book!

and i trade them:)

(and meditate and read with them)

Liliana  16 Sep 2002
I meditate with them, and Ive considered playing games with them, but never really had anyone to paly with. Theres a cool strategy game called Zarcana Isd love to play someday

And mine hang out in their bags a lot

:THP

- Study
- Meditation
- Story telling
- Rituals
- Creating new spreads
- Shadow work (do you count that among studies?)
- Trading

I use mine for self and spiritual development, study, and soon for building story lines. When not in use my decks reside either in their boxes or in bags depending on the original packaging of the decks. If they come in a deck sized box they remain in their original box, if the cards come loose within a larger box then I place the cards in a bag (which often times ends up within the deck/book set box)

For comperison
Meditation
spell works
Traiding
making up stories
Putting things in perspective
and little reminders...i put a card on my table thats linked to the theme i'm working on/with for myself
For example:
Since i encountered some problems with myself and love i have the card of the goddess aphrodite from the goddess knowledge cards and a card of the same goddess from my Mythic deck!

i study my decks more than i read them. i'm a lot like catlin and jewel. i enjoying studying the art and figuring out how the deck was created. for example, graphic design, paintings, pen and ink. i collect decks b/c of the multitude of ways to express 78 universal symbols. it's like like tapping into the universal unconscious. it's particularly interesting to compare decks that have been around a long time against those whose publication is more recent. it's also interesting to note what kind of decks publishers accept against self published decks.

i find that tarot feeds my soul in so many ways that it's difficult to describe them all. they help me socialize on the web and meet new friends. i get to know ppl better via trading. they have helped me create a personal tarot world that exists mostly b/c of the internet. i probably would still have 3 decks if it weren't for the internet.

My Thoth deck is the perfect size for levelling out that short leg on my dining room table.

Liliana  16 Sep 2002
LOL Mojo you are bad

Tarot also makes great art, if for some reason you get a deck thats missing a card you can frame a set a cards you like, or even cut them up for collage work.

Spellwork. Other than that, I usually just leave them in their box. I may start some of Nina Lee Braden's exercises too.

MystiqueMoonlight  16 Sep 2002
What are these Nina Lee Braden exercises you guys are talking about? I've not heard of this......

Phoenix  16 Sep 2002
Nina Lee Braden is the author of the book Tarot for Self Discovery. The book is punlished by Llewellyn, and contains exercises on self discovery.

I am so new to Tarot that I am not sure how I will end up using my decks. Right now I am exploring ithe imagery and finding connections in my life. I guess I am trying to validate the imagery for myself. I have found it a very spirtual pursuit.

I keep my decks in their boxes, (I just ordered a couple of bags from Tarot Totes!). The cards are all in order. I want to be able to find a particular card when I want to. Besides, allowing them to get out of order would be like shuffling them and I am not sure that I am ready to hear what they would have to tell me..lol.

another use for decks--floor covering. when i'm going thru a phaze of looking at them all
ornamental clutter for my deck
something for the spousal unit to trip over on the floor
another cat bed or (toy if i allow them around my neferteri!)
something else to insure w/ the home owners policy
something to be obsessive compulsive about
something to assist in story lines

i want to be buried in a sarcophagus carved like the high priestess. wonder how much that'll set us back? ;) perhaps i should start looking for someone to commission now! LOL

have you been to my house or something? *ROFLMAO* ... one of my kitties prefers my tarot books, the other has claimed the Fairy Ring Oracle as her own *LOL*. You laugh but I am actually planning to discuss insuring my decks with my soon to be hubby, and being obsessive compulsive about my decks is not far from the truth actually *LOL*.
I like your sarchophagus idea a lot! you think they would give us a discount if we order 3 (I am sure Faunabay will want one too!) ... I want mine to be large enough so that my deck collection and tarot books can be buried with me. That way if I am ever dug up by archeologists of the next millenium it will be an incredible find! *ROFLMAO* ... I am not joking by the way.

Hey Truthsayer ... a little off topic but ... have you purchased the Portal yet? I just ordered it yesterday :)
