Here's a question I'd love to have some feedback on. How do you interpret position seven in a Celtic Cross spread, and how do you relate it to position one? Sometimes I get a little stuck explaining the differences between the two positions. And my research on position seven has yielded a myriad of possibilities, such as:
1. Where One Finds Oneself (future extension - Mythic Tarot)
2. Himself (illuminating!- from A.E. Waite)
3. Your future position (Sharman-Burke again)
4. Querant's personality in the spread (read that somewhere)
5. Attitude or position in the matter (tarotspreads.com)
Position one a little more cohesive:
1. Covering card - reflecting the situation, inner and outer in which querant finds him/herself presently
2. What covers him (that loquacious A.E. Waite again!)
3. Present position
4. Influences, atmosphere
So, fellow forum members, your insight into this little issue would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

I tend to use position 1 as the situation/question. I only read for myself, and I don't ask cards a particular question except maybe: What's going on right now? or What do I need to know about now? So I let the cards tell me the question as well as the answer :)
Position 7 is more a case of 'what is in my inner world right now?' So 1 is the situation, 7 is what is going on for me within that situation.
7 works with 8: 7 tells me how I am seeing/dealing with the situation, 8 tells me how others see me and/or the situation. It's a bit like the Johari window, which has four parts: what is known to everyone (position 1), what is known only to me (position 7), what is known to others but not to me (position 8) and what is known to none of us - I'm experimenting with having that as position 9, with 10 as the advice card.

Position 1 Show your present situation or may show some matter that you are concerned about at this time.
Card 7 show your own personality and attitude, while card number 8 shows the attitudes and influences of those around you or the quality of your relationship with them.
Position seven shows your reaction or attitude to the present situation in card number 1. It show how you feel or how you are responding to the situation.

Hi!
I am quite fond of Joan Bunning's explanation of the CC, and it's what I go with in my readings.
She describes Positions 1 and 2 as a "mini-cross." The two together are like a summary of what is going on at the moment. Position 1 to me is the core of the situation, the major theme. It does not necessarily reflect the querant's attitude towards or in that situation, although they might coincide.
Position 7 is the querant, the "Self," as related to this particular situation. It could be how the querant sees herself, how she wishes to be with regards to this situation, or even how she needs to be in order to best deal with this situation.
In other words, Position 1 is a more "objective" summary of the main issue at hand, while Position 7 is a more "subjective" point-of-view of the querant.
Hope this helps.
