I would appreciate some help as to the significance of different colours in a spread. A Pyramid reading i had done some time ago had the colour red dominating the other colours in the spread as if to send me some kind of message. Any ideas as to what the meaning could be. The final outcome card was the magician. Curious as to what other colours mean as well.

Howdy Tony and welcome to Aeclectic Tarot. As for your predominant color... I always think of red as relating to things such as passion, lust, the animal part of us. Though included in this are some of our higher natures too, such as love. I believe it can also relate to the life-force which drives all living things.
One of my books on Tarot ("The Mystical Tarot" by Rosemary Ellen Guiley) adds the keywords; blood, eroticism, anger, passion, sensuality, materialism, along with courage, willpower and strength.
Depending on what the reading was on and what your religous beliefs (if any) it may have to do with the crucifixion, the blood of Christ. This is something I had read somewhere, but now I can not recall where.
Hope this helped....

Hmm. Where did you obtain these meanings? As far as I know, these meanings are somewhat different from the ones I'm familiar with.

Yes Demonesse, they can differ slightly for everyone, although some of the general meanings have been around for a while, (eg: white-innocense, black - unknown, they pretty much stay the same to most people that I know)
In a study group that I attend for the tarot, we studied colours and their meanings, and the group leader came across some literature in this regard, which we then looked at in regards to the tarot cards with their general meanings. So above is what they were.
Colours in people's auras (not that I can see auras) were similar in the sense of the way people felt when their aura was a certain colour.
I have also read in different books about the meanings of colours, and I found they were alot different in other aspects.
But...Hey!.....what we all see and learn differ in alot ways and I am not an expert, but this is what I have learnt, so I thought I would share it.
Cheers

I associate colors with chakras when reading.
Red - Root Chakra (also brown)
Orange - Spleen Chakra
Yellow - Solar plexus chakra
Green - Heart chakra
Blue - throat chakra
Indigo - third eye chakra
Violet - crown chakra (also white)
Carol Bridges in The Medicine Woman Inner Guidebook (text that goes with Medicine Woman deck) has some nuggets on tarot and chakras.
The system of colors works very well for me when I am using the Vision Quest deck.

Hello,
I have a book called "Tarot Basics" by Burger & Fiebig that has these meanings:
White- Beggining (as in a clean slate or empty page) of fufillment and healing, white shadow (animus). New mental territory
Gray- Unconscious state or conscious equality, being unbiased.
Black- The unknown, internal state, Black shadow (anima), darkness of the soul or new spiritual territory.
Red- Heart, soul, will, vitality.
Yellow- Sun, awareness, zest for life; envy, mental dissonance
Blue- Open sky or space and clear water; spirituality.
Green- Fresh, young, promising, immature, inexperienced.
Brown- Connection to earth, rooted, grounded, vegetative.
Violet- Experiencing boundaries; mixture of blue and red.
I don't know if I agree with it all, but I just read it the other night and then saw this post and thought I should share.
