When to do a new deck spread? I've been not doing one on some of the decks I picked up in the last couple of months because I wanted to get to know a little about them and at least read the LWB. On some I wodered if I should read the book first but have settled for LWB since I may not find the book for some.
So when is the right time for your new deck spreads?

I always do a new deck spread just before I start using the deck for the first time.
Sometimes I get a deck but don't feel attracted to it right away, or, like you, I want to read more about the deck before using it. So I'll do that first and by the time I'm ready to use it, I'll do the new deck spread.
For some reason I wouldn't do a new deck spread after I've already used the deck for reading. Maybe that's just me being silly ;), but that just wouldn't feel right for me.

I've moved this 'cause Tarot Decks is for discussions of specific decks. :)

When i get a new deck i usually go thru it a few times..put the deck next to my bed when i go to sleep and after a few days i do the new deck spread.
And like tarotlady i never do a new deck spreads i have used for readings...its feels rude asking about the deck when whe have already "talked"

Good question juice... I've been contemplating a similar post. Would you do a "new deck" spread on a deck which is rather old, but which you haven't used for a reading? I'm considering this on my mother's old Albano-Waite deck which she gave me some time back. I've never used it for a reading (yet), but am considering it. I have been using it as a "study" deck though. Just wondering...

Trogon,
From what you say, although it's a deck that's been used before, it's "new" to you. I don't think it would mind that you've been studying with it and I'm sure it would respond well to a new deck spread as a way of letting you know how it wants to communicate with you.
I agree with Juice and Tarotlady - I don't always do a new spread immediately while I read up on the deck but once I've started using them for readings I feel it would just confuse the issue to try a new deck spread.
