I usually have my fan turned on when I do a reading, but lately its been "blowing"cards at me. I want to be able to use something to hold the cards down until I'm finished with the spread. Any chess piece tarot-type stuff out there?
Any ideas helpful.Thanx
Crappy cards lately.. I Need a bit of a boost....

Hi Jakyle! I had posted a similar inquiry a little while back. I had asked about how people contend with breezes when doing readings out side. That thread is at http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8101 and contains several helpful suggestions.
Since that thread, I've purchased several (a dozen) tumble-polished pieces of hematite for this purpose. Most of the new age type shops carry something of this sort at pretty reasonable prices (I paid about $0.75 U.S. for the ones I got).

I think Hematite or any other small tumbled rocks or crystals would be the ideal tarot paperweights. Heck, or better yet... rune stones *g*

I just happen to pick up cool looking stones off the ground..Wash and dry them..That is what I use.

Hematite is nice & heavy, but they do get scratched. I've used quartz crystal pieces. I thought about regular native rocks, but they're sharp & can damage the cards.
If the breeze is light, one of those $2 bags of flattened glass marbles (in irridescent, blue or green colors) have about 80 1" size pieces in them, or the larger ones have 30 of the 2" size flattened glass. Either would work.

Thanks to everyone on the ideas...I really appreciate it...If I use certain crystals, should I "ritualize" them before starting the spread?

there are some craft kits out that give materials and directions on making paperweights with the material of your choice inside. it would be neat to scan some cards or take cards from a deck with missing cards to put on the inside of the paperweight.
that's if you enjoy arts and crafts. i know everyone doesn't enjoy them. there's also these see thru globes that you can slip a picture into. you could just as easily put a scanned copy of a card or a card into the globe. no effort or extra creativity involved. you can find these globes at arts and crafts stores like michael's arts and crafts for $3 or $4.

Hi Jak! (Hmmmm.... bet the FBI "hits" on that!)
Anyway... all I did was my usual "cleansing" of negativity which I do with any newly purchased stone or crystal. This is a method I had picked up from some book or other and seems to work very well for me. Buy some rock salt - place a layer in a clear crystal or glass bowl, set your new stones on this layer of salt, then bury the stones with more salt. Set this bowl where in can be in the sun. Leave it for 24 hours. When you pull the stones out of the salt, rinse them in cool running water for a minute or so and you're done. (Discard the salt - it absorbs negative and excess energies.) If your stones still feel like they need to be "recharged" after this, mingle them with several quartz crystals and place them in the sun for a few hours.
This is what I do with any new stones I get and it seems to work pretty well. Then again, we are just talking about stones to use as weight... ;)
