MULTIPLE-DECK READING

Thread originally posted on the Aeclectic Tarot Forum on 27 Nov 2002, and now archived in the Forum Library.

Shadow Wolf  27 Nov 2002
I did three different with the three decks I have on hand and I got
similar reading with all three decks--each giving a different twist on the situation. All three called for a change. Tell me something
I don't know.........

I know I need to change certain aspects of my current situation and I'm working it, but I'm still not sure what that change should be. I've been praying for guidance but so far I still don't know what to do. Or, I know what to do but I just haven't realized it yet ?

I know I need to wait on the greater wisdom, but it always seems
to whisper to me, when I need to wave red flags at me and scream in my ear.....LOL

The first deck I used was the Ibis deck, then I used Celtic Dragon,
then I used Celtic Tarot.

On Friday, I'm taking the kiddies to Barnes and Noble and I'll be
picking up Tarot Deck #5. I'll let you know which one it is.......

It'll be one of three : Triple Goddess, Fairie Oracle or Inner Child.
I'm hoping to add the other two by Christmas.

Thanks for the chance to share !!!!!!!!

I've done a reading that way 2 times that I cna remember.

First time was with witch's tarot and 2 diiferent i ching books. The question was which divination system is best, or something like that. The answer was basically, it's all good.

Second time was to get a general reading for how my life was going. The witch's tarot gave me this spiritual answer and Mage gave me a more down to earth answer. After I thought about it a while they were the same answer from different view points.

Now if I use more than one deck I'm asking about different aspects of an issue. I've come to agree with many people here. Asking the same question too frequently is like telling someone they didn't really get the job they just admitted to and they should tell you what they really do. I do think reading from different decks for different questions is good. After I get familiar with more decks I may even pull for different positions in the same spread.

I did a triple deck reading yesterday. I wanted to see if I could do a story or poem sequence. I laid down three cards from a majors only tarot, Romantic Tarots by Trevisan. I got La Sacradote (High Priestess), La Torre (Tower) and Il Sole. The next nine cards fed into the three card major draw. The story references I threw down on paper first, then was refined in a free-verse poem.
Here are the next three lines:
Marco Polo Tarot: Fante di Denari/Emporer/9 of Swords
Trevisan's Renaissance:7 of Wands/Fante di Spades/9 of Cups
Marco Polo: Temperance/2 of Swords/Lovers

The Last Time We Saw Her

La Sacredote Sage turned the corner into Morning
Dawn lingered its rosy fingers on her smoke-smelt cloak.
Sage turned from her Caverns of Dream, to look at the Fallen Tower
She saw the Old Emporer sleeping in it's ruins, clasping his deepest wish and a chalice of nine jewels that brought him and the land at last, into peace
The awakenened People, Herald and Soldiers walking to rebuild their homes with a fear and memory of being Birds should they ever stray again.
The New Emporer had given them food and coins and warning of the Sage watching from her Caverns of Dreams. He who had been Fante gently laid down his sword forever on ruins of the Fallen Tower: it is as we all remember standing there with its mate.
Both swords came together the first dawn in this Land of Peace. Lady Temperance walked to the ruins, with her flasks
and threads of healing, and crossed her sword with the other, wishing that they stand forever locked in rubble. Her fluids and threads of healing now are legend.
We all sing the song first sung when Lady Temperance
and the New Emporer first sang as their eyes met the first time.
In this Land of Peace.

And Sacredote Sage?

La Sacredote Sage turned the corner into Dawn
walking into the Caverns of our Dreams
Her shadow became longer as two snowy owls flew
into it's depths and then the shade faded
As Dawn's rosy fingers melted mist and we awoke
into this Land of Peace.

I realized that I was drawing from half-remembered tales of healing. This evening, we had dinner with friends with small children and enjoyed their liveliness. In a few days, we take my nephews for a day at a zoo...and I think being able to enjoy a storytelling treat with my tarot decks is making me more relaxed with our time with relatives, especially the lively kids.
I also think I want to check out birds, maybe even Snowy Owls, at the zoo or elsewhere...I am curious to see what tarot that you choose...and if the Inner Child deck spoke to you at all...

well I am not sure about that - to do one reading and compare the cards with other decks enhances understanding of the cards. But doing thrre readings to the same topic in a row ? I do not see a use in that - because everything should ususally be within the first spread. Would you explain that to me ?

Major Tom  29 Nov 2002
Gosh! This sounds like comparative tarot method to me. :)

I'm a little unsure of something here Shadow Wolf. Why were you repeating the same reading with 3 different decks? Were you (as suggested by Major Tom) merely comparing the 3 decks, seeing how they read? Or was this something more along the line of looking for further insight after the first reading?

I've never tried re-doing a reading using different decks on the same issue. I would think that this would be like repeating a reading with the same deck several times. The possibility exists of eventually forcing the deck to give you the reading you want as opposed to what you might need. Looking at it from that perspective, I did find it very interesting that all 3 readings gave you essentially the same answer. Thanks for posting this...

Shadow Wolf  30 Nov 2002
I was just curious about about how the different decks would
"read". I used different spreads with each deck, and the result
was that each deck gave a slightly different "slant" on the
situation.

I didn't really "ask" a question. I just let the cards speak to me,
and with all three decks I received similar readings.

WRONG! :P *LOL*
In comparative readings you cast the first spread with one deck, and then pick the EXACT SAME cards from another deck to gain further inspiration and insight. The same reading is seen through two or more different decks' cards.
Here, the reader has taken 3 different decks, and cast three different spreads, 3 separate readings with a list of different cards appearing - and not the same cards seen from different decks...

and the method used would be "voi ch´entrate onni speranza lasciate" ?
sorry, I simply had to use that correspondence.... ;)

Cerulean  01 Dec 2002
I was hoping Shadow Wolf would let us know if any of the new decks being looked at might also contribute to the hope of the 'change' needed...
The Fairy Oracle and Triple Goddess are interesting and different...I don't have them.
I'm familar with the Inner Child cards for their wonderful storytime picks, although the paintings and stories spoke to my sister in such volumes, she received it from me.
Someone posted to me once that the Tarot of Transformation by Jasmin Lee Cori that is going to be out in December 2002 also gave a different take when reading the online sample cards...Jasmin Lee Cori mentions for instance, she uses the definition of Green Man instead of Emporer for a naturalistic alternative.
I'll check this thread to find out what happened to Shadow Wolf...

Lupo, I am SO SO SO SO SO sorry... but I don't get it!!! :( :( :( :( *LOL*
Really, I don't get your joke... I must PM you. :D *LOL*
I AM familoar with the quote (you bet? ;) *LOL*) and I also suspect you are aware that is not the correct order, but all in all I don't get what you mean... *LOL*

As for the three decks: I would discard the Inner Child for the artwork as well as for the type of deck... I have some sweet decks, but that one is maybe too much, or simply I need to look at more cards, but there's a sort of extreme colourfulness in them that really puts me off...
I should suggest to get the TAROT deck instead of the Oracle, for a matter of coherence with these boards... *LOL* But that tarot deck does not convince me, maybe cos I have not had time to research decently - and partly also because of the artwork, and the few cards I have seen (they don't hit me as particularly interesting from the triple-goddess perspective).
So, I suggest GET THE FAERIE ORACLE. Firstly because the artwork is marvellous, secondly because you won't have problems learning (don't forget the Study Group on here as well), thirdly because the couple readings I got were quite magnificent, and lastly cos it's the only one on my wishlist from those you mention... GET IT GET IT GET IT!!! :D

Shadow Wolf  01 Dec 2002
I don't have any of those decks, the decks I used in the 3
separate readings were:

Celtic Tarot
Celtic Dragon Tarot and
Mythic Tarot

I didn't know I did anything different.

I was just curious as to the outcome using different decks !!!

Curiosity is probably why many of us (including myself to some extent) start learning the Tarot. Curiosity is a good thing. As I said earlier, I did find it quite interesting that you were getting similar answers using the different decks. This is not something I had tried before, but now that I am a budding tarotholic and own several decks, perhaps I may see how the different decks compare in a reading.

You had mentioned that you had done different spreads with each deck? Now I'm curious... ;) Which spread were you using with which deck?

Shadow Wolf  02 Dec 2002
I used the past-present-furture with the Mythic Tarot,
I don't remember. I was just experimenting, I wasn't paying much
attention to which spread I used for which deck.

I don't think it really matters. In my case the decks spoke to what needed to hear. I think that's how tarot is supposed to be.
I really didn't "think" too much about.

Is this making any sense ?????

The decks will tell you what you need to know.

RedWood  02 Dec 2002
I would imagine..That if I were to use multiple decks..They would be for each possible outcome.. as in..for a job...Stay at this job? Find another job? Go to college to hone my skills? go to college but stay at this job? etc...etc...Know what I mean? The different decks could give you different viewpoints..not to mention being able to see all the decks and spread together to get a full picture..

Shadow Wolf  02 Dec 2002
I don't remember the actual spreads but I think the question was
career oriented.

Yes... it is making sense. It is a very intersting thread and an interesting idea. May have to give it a try sometime... :D And I have to agree with your final statement. Many thanks for posting this...
